December 7, 2022 at 8:36 am #1205181535Probably just bad timing but Jennifer looks so awkward and tense here compared to relaxed Viola

She is a movie star.
December 7, 2022 at 8:43 am #1205181544Margot Robbie only works with amazing directors and people on this forum underestimate her power.

So much respect, graciousness… QUEENS!

Brie Larson said something similar about Captain Marvel being the first female action movie to make money and everyone made fun of her. Same thing happened with Gal Gadot. Margot too with Harley Quinn. I don’t think Brie is arrogant. I don’t think Jennifer is. I don’t think Margot is. Etc. But it was a big deal when THG blew up, and people acted like it never happened before (even though it has). It was a big deal when Captain Marvel made a billion dollars. People acted like female led movies had never been successful before. Even though they had. It was a big deal when Sigourney Weaver did Aliens. And then people acted like women couldn’t lead movies again. People do forget about female led success stories almost as soon as they happen. It’s not really the actress’s fault that every success story is treated like an anomaly. Almost every interview Jennifer did for THG everyone was gassing her up because she was leading a YA action franchise as if no one had done it before. But Kristen was the lead in Twilight? Emma Watson did action in Harry Potter.
But I feel like the backlash these statements get is always the same, it’s about knocking women down a peg. Oh this woman said something mildly cocky? What a delusional bitch. Everyone make fun of her. It always reeks of misogyny. People are making really gross comments about Jennifer and her success and her comment was….not a big deal?
December 7, 2022 at 9:35 am #1205181609Oh, God…
I am not sure whether this is arrogance or ignorance, or plainly blunder, but this really show this generation’s certain myopia towards past. We had Brie Larson stating something similar, few weeks ago Simu Liu called Scorsese and Tarantino “gatekeepers” and now Jennifer…
But, yeah… We have gone from one extreme to the other. Lawrence said something that is objectively wrong, but claiming “The Hunger Games” were not a huge thing of 2010s is idiotic.
The sad reality is that many of those female trailblazers are not in Hollywood mainstream media today. Which is why some forget them. But they did amazing job and yes, there were many boys admiring those strong women leading action movies and watching them without blinking.
