I knew the drama would ensue once I saw Yeoh won NBR.
Those saying it’s the “kiss of death” would have a different feeling had Cate won instead…
Yeoh wins NBR: Ooop it’s the kiss of death, she might even be snubbed!
Had Blanchette won NBR: Ooof she’s undeniable, she’ll sweep everything including the Oscar!I see y’all……!
December 8, 2022 at 12:47 pm #1205183696You should all save the energy for the Globes. They actually matter as opposed to NBR.
December 8, 2022 at 12:58 pm #1205183726If anything Yeoh showing that she could win from an organization that usually goes with much more obviously baity performances is a positive sign for her
This. I’m loving the race so far. There’s a split between Cate and Yeoh. Last year was extremely nail biting till the very end. I hope they split the televised precursors. Maybe something like Yeoh Globe, Cate CC, Yeoh Sag and Cate Bafta and then… Oscar time, the hell is going to happen?
December 8, 2022 at 12:58 pm #1205183728None of them, except Amy, was a real snub and none of those films was a Best Picture frontrunner like EEAAO is, Michelle is fine.
While Swinton wasn’t a BP contender she was absolutely snubbed, making every major precursor. I agree Michelle is doing fine though
FYC:
Zar Amir Ebrahimi - Holy Spider (Best Actress)
Ana de Armas, Julianne Nicholson - Blonde (Best Actress, Supporting Actress)
Samantha Morton - She Said (Best Supporting Actress)
Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Inisherin (Best Supporting Actress)December 8, 2022 at 1:05 pm #1205183748Not going to lie, I hate it that Michelle won NBR for Best Actress. This award is the kiss of death for actresses in the running for Oscar. Someone mentioned me that it has more overlap than NYCFC, for example, but they go for outside the line and foreign performances most of the time. NBR picks actual contenders. In some cases, geez, they awarded: Tilda Swinton, Amy Adams and Rachel Zegler. None of them didn’t even make it. I know Michelle isn’t winning but now I’m scared she won’t even be nominated.
Is the kiss of death in the actor category not actress, lol.

"EGOT" and "Triple Crown of Acting" winner: VIOLA DAVIS!!!!
December 8, 2022 at 1:38 pm #1205183841Arrival was never a top 3 best picture contender though, and was never going to get any attention from the acting branch outside of Adams. Neither of those apply to EEAAO.
Hate to be remembered that Adams missed for her 2 best performances (Arrival, Enchanted) and got in for something like American Hustle
FYC:
The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, Somebody Somewhere, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);

They’re hiding this movie, that’s not a good sign.
