Critics never go for a narrative, they go for what they like. I feel the main issue Deadwyler has is the lack of campaign and the film not being seen enough.
2020 = Carey Mulligan
2021 = Kristen Stewart
2022 = Cate BlanchettDecember 5, 2022 at 7:33 am #1205178686This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.December 5, 2022 at 7:34 am #1205178688I hope, I live one day to see critics support a minority.
I guess you weren’t alive when Critics went hard for Lupita in Us

Yeah, all deserving. What about it?
December 5, 2022 at 7:42 am #1205178697Lupita was the exception.
December 5, 2022 at 7:48 am #1205178711Blanchett wins again. I will not be jumping the gun here, as we all knew critics will love her performance. Plus, it is only two film critics groups that have awarded and we have a lot of them coming in the next couple of months. More will be clear after we complete the trifecta and things become clear where the critics stand.
Push from the critics for Blanchett makes that “undeniable” narrative. Deadwyler losing in her hometown is not good for the optics but I am not sure it will be THAT big of a story. Yeoh is also facing difficulty because it seems people like the movie, like the directors, Quan is sweeping so far… All of that may put her on the back seat when it comes to prioritizing where to award EEAAO.
This was a bit surprise, but it is still early to make any definite conclusions.
Spreading the Love: Oscars 2023
Best Picture: Everything Everywhere All At Once
Best Director: The Daniels
Best Actor: Colin Farrell
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett
Best Supporting Actor: Ke Huy Quan
Best Supporting Actress: Angela BassettDecember 5, 2022 at 7:51 am #1205178719I’m not a fan of the sweep and I’m still hoping that, the critics at least, will spread the love with such and incredible amount of incredible female performances this year (Yeoh, Deadwyler, Tang Wei, Ebrahimi) and not only award (the great) Blanchett almost by default.
Jodie Comer, Elisabeth Moss, Carey Mulligan, Alicia Vikander supremacy

LOCKWOOD & CO. in all categories (Bafta Tv)
December 5, 2022 at 7:57 am #1205178730It’s way too early to say Blanchett is sweeping, although she is being set up to be a critics leader. The rest of the trifecta will have influence, and I’m really interested in seeing whether they give it to her too. And even still, everyone was ready to call the race for Kidman after she won Globes last year despite Stewart’s critics sweep. There’s a lot of race left.
December 5, 2022 at 8:00 am #1205178739Honey, the critics don’t care about the minority, at the end of the day they go with the blonde white actresses they have a fetish with.

And you are her hater. Either way, you’ll have to accept her success. By the way, I know that her beauty bothers you and bothers you even more because she is prettier and more talented than your favorites.
