Minions: The Rise of Gru is a box office smash and Avatar: The Way of Water will do bonkers at the box office. Michelle Yeoh will have 3 box office hits at the end of the year, of course, including Everything Everywhere All At Once. This truly is Yeoh’s year.
Michelle (Yeoh, Williams) Oscar campaign manager.
July 5, 2022 at 11:12 am #1205004133I don’t think the film is gonna make money at the BO either so yeah probably not happening…..
FWIW, The Eyes of Tammy Faye made $2.7 million at the box office….

9. Danielle Deadwyler, TillI think Dern will go in supporting. Also, even if Kazan and Mulligan eventually are both leads I’m pretty sure one will still campaign in supporting to better both of their chances.

I do think they are pushing Patricia Clarkson in supporting. We’ll see!
July 5, 2022 at 5:36 pm #1205004317FWIW, The Eyes of Tammy Faye made $2.7 million at the box office….
Difference is… Tammy Faye is a straight up Oscar Bait, made in a… lower budget? and smaller studio (You could argue that Searchlight isn’t a small one but looks like Sony+Tristar is a bigger studio). The Woman King on the other hand, looks like an epic that might pass as Oscar bait a la The Last Duel/Gladiator.

Yeah, this is what’s stopping me from understanding why they’d push either of Zoe Kazan or Carey Mulligan in supporting. From what I understand, the story is about Kazan and Mulligan’s characters, so I think it would be otherworldly fraud. And secondly, CMIIW Clarkson is getting good notices from rumors? Not to mention there’s also Samantha Morton to consider. I think they’re going to run them both in lead because I can’t see them sacrificing Clarkson and Morton if their material is good.
• FYC: Everything Everywhere All at Once in any and every single category, especially Best Picture, Michelle Yeoh in Actress, Stephanie Hsu in Supporting Actress, The Daniels in Director/Screenplay, Paul Rogers in Editing, and Son Lux in Score.

I agree. Statistically speaking in such a packed year we won’t be having to nominees in lead from a same movie. Carey is more well known than Zoe, but we have to watch the movie to see how the characters are handled and whose material is better.

Is this a bot?
July 6, 2022 at 3:09 am #1205004539Saying Viola Davis can be nominated for this is like saying Alexander can be nominated for The Northman imo.
I find both extremely unlikely.

You really comparing Viola’s industry stature to Alexander? Comeone.

I don’t think they are trying to compare their stature more as their type of same role they both have this year. It does feel like the exact same vibes and looks to just be an action adventure role which is rarely Academy Friendly, let alone acting categories, those are even more far and few. Just because she’s Davis you think she can really namecheck her way in for the type of film this is? She couldn’t do it for Widows, I see an even less chance here.

agree with you but i hope this is her time for making Box Office as main character …sometime a star needs box office also …
