Maybe but it doesn’t mean she wasn’t top 3. Viola still makes more sense as jury pick.
That is what everyone was arguing with regards to Davis before the nom though. You all said she wouldn’t make sense as a jury pick and now she suddenly does?? Ana is a Latina who had to pull off a difficult role — she could have def been a jury pick (though I agree she was top 3).
I wish at least one user would be blunt and say why they’re not more confident in Davis or Bassett beyond the genre arguments. 👀

Every actress on the bafta lead actress noms,i liked their performances this year.yeoh,davis,blanchett,ana,Thompson and ofcourse Deadwyler. And i still think adrea is coming for Williams spot in the oscar.
Ps.i think spielberg isn’t pushing for Williams, if he pushed her like mark rylance, de bose there’s no way Williams wouldn’t be winning,either in supporting or lead.as i said spielberg isn’t lifting a finger for Williams. Yet.

Her main problem is that she doesn’t have the performance to beat Blanchett and Yeoh.

I refuse to believe Thompson was a jury pick. She’s literally a veteran with 3 BAFTA wins and 8 nominations. The jury is there to be more inclusive of actor who likely wouldn’t get nominated. So why would they save Thompson who’s been decorated by BAFTA multiple times not Lesley Manville who hasn’t? Why would they block Colman the last two years but save Thompson?
Thompson was DEFINITELY top 3 just because of how respected she is. I highly doubt she’s a jury pick.
