Diversity does not just pertain to race and they had already picked Danielle, so I dunno what you are trying to say here. Ana is also a diverse nominee (a rising Latina).
She’s white. I understand you’re in denial about this but maybe Williams missing SAG is a big red flag and Viola can still make it.
January 19, 2023 at 8:03 am #1205253336I refuse to believe Thompson was a jury pick. She’s literally a veteran with 3 BAFTA wins and 8 nominations. The jury is there to be more inclusive of actor who likely wouldn’t get nominated. So why would they save Thompson who’s been decorated by BAFTA multiple times not Lesley Manville who hasn’t? Why would they block Colman the last two years but save Thompson? Thompson was DEFINITELY top 3 just because of how respected she is. I highly doubt she’s a jury pick.
lol she was not
she gives a brave performance at an older age but nobody cares about her movie so they saved her cause she deserved it

De Armas was playing Monroe and she basically hit all precursors including AACTA and the London critics. Her being top 3 here was visible from space.

everybody knows top 3 is cate michelle and ana, the jury saved 2 black actress and a very brave performance by an older woman, makes perfect sense
January 19, 2023 at 8:14 am #1205253363I am not. I believe de Armas probably was top 3. But it’s hypocritical for some of you to say it with certainty when you all said Davis would be snubbed because she wouldn’t make sense as a jury pick.
I never said that, girl. But again what was that jury supposed to do? It was Viola or Naomi even if these aren’t the type of performances they usually go for. They restricted their power so much and that has impacted their choices. Had Wei or Ebrahimi been on that longlist I think they would have gone with one of them over Viola.

nahh The TOP 3 came first later on Jury picked the three other candidates
Best Actor : Cillian Murphy
Best Actress : Annette Bening Kate Winslet Fantasia Barrino
January 19, 2023 at 8:21 am #1205253381Her main problem is that she doesn’t have the performance to beat Blanchett and Yeoh.
Yeah.but spielberg could easily push her in the supporting category. Didn’t push there either.but whatever, i am amazed at the bafta lead actress nomination, all are such solid performances.
January 19, 2023 at 8:21 am #1205253383Blanchett
Yeoh
De Armas
Deadwyller
WilliamsI love Viola but I see her missing 🥺
January 19, 2023 at 8:27 am #1205253399Final Nominations Predictions (in terms of likelihood of a nomination) 1. Cate Blanchett, TÁR 2. Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once 3. Ana de Armas, Blonde 4. Danielle Deadwyler, Till 5. Michelle Williams, The Fablemans (yes I believe she still makes it in at the Oscars) 6. Viola Davis, The Woman King 7. Margot Robbie, Babylon
Underestimate Viola Davis at your own risk.
Gaga is slaying in Folie à Deux
January 19, 2023 at 8:32 am #1205253409it makes the most sense, but i’m still shocked Davis made it as a jury pick, she never seemed the kind of performance that a jury loves.
How are you so sure Davis was a jury pick? She’s been nominated everywhere and her film is popular. As far as I’m concerned, she’s top 3. Viola is the only black woman you should never underestimate

January 19, 2023 at 8:35 am #1205253414Williams should have watched her own movie before going Lead. What were you thinking, lady? At least ask other people for advice.
January 19, 2023 at 8:39 am #1205253428At BAFTAs the type of role plays a part in the jury choices imo. I mean, Thompson is a veteran with probably lots of good will from her peers in the British Academy but we don´t see many leading roles in sex comedies for +60 year old women (with, also, young actors as male leads). In that sense, Manville´s role is a little stereotypical (therefore not particularly interesting for a jury to single it out), Thompson´s is not.

Is that even her decision?
January 19, 2023 at 8:46 am #1205253443I thought about it, and I am putting Viola in my Top 5
She is too thick in the race and has made all precursors. Yes her film is weak, but she is too big a star and people will be putting her as No. 1.
Unlike Williams, she is the face of the movie. Despite Thuso being an equal (if not more of) a protagonist, people associate the movie with her name. Her film was a BO success unlike Fabelmans (people have seen it). And Williams on the other hand is not the main protagonist, she is borderline supporting and Fabelmans is a Spielberg movie. And she missed at SAG also!
