At BAFTAs the type of role plays a part in the jury choices imo. I mean, Thompson is a veteran with probably lots of good will from her peers in the British Academy but we don´t see many leading roles in sex comedies for +60 year old women (with, also, young actors as male leads). In that sense, Manville´s role is a little stereotypical (therefore not particularly interesting for a jury to single it out), Thompson´s is not.

Williams should have watched her own movie before going Lead. What were you thinking, lady? At least ask other people for advice.

    Is that even her decision?

I thought about it, and I am putting Viola in my Top 5

She is too thick in the race and has made all precursors. Yes her film is weak, but she is too big a star and people will be putting her as No. 1.

Unlike Williams, she is the face of the movie. Despite Thuso being an equal (if not more of) a protagonist, people associate the movie with her name. Her film was a BO success unlike Fabelmans (people have seen it). And Williams on the other hand is not the main protagonist, she is borderline supporting and Fabelmans is a Spielberg movie. And she missed at SAG also!

So who officially comes first alphabetically, de Armas or Deadwyler?

How are you so sure Davis was a jury pick? She’s been nominated everywhere and her film is popular. As far as I’m concerned, she’s top 3. Viola is the only black woman you should never underestimate

Lol tell us where are the other nominations The Woman King got besides the jury ones?

It’s clear from all SAG, PGA and BAFTA that the industry feels less enthusiastic about this film than critics do.

    Is that even her decision?

the movie was made as an ensemble and she was the female lead, like the case of babylon and margot robbie

there was no category change just people assuming she was supporting until fablemans was released and they revealed she would compete in leading

things like this are decided before the movie is even made so there was no decision

As of now, I’m predicting de Armas for a nomination but I keep thinking back to how Fassbender missed for Shame, and he was in a much better movie….

Well, he was playing a sex-addicted New York executive, not Marilyn Monroe.

But would he lose to DDL as Thatcher?

It’s so weird that SAG & BAFTA went for this gonzo divisive NC-17 film. The power of Netflix.
