January 24, 2023 at 9:55 am #1205263575This, thank you. Maybe they will take a SAG member more seriously because I’ve been telling the same for months and people refused to believe it.
The won’t listen to me either, but you know being in SAG and also a person of color I clearly do not know what I’m talking about.
January 24, 2023 at 9:55 am #1205263577SAG members didn’t watch it either. I know a lot of African American voters that wouldn’t watch either because it brought up trauma. That was the problem with Till. I think that’s the problem nowadays. People can watch Dahmer like it’s the Golden Girls, but a historical story about the horrid death of a black boy is too much for them to stomach. It’s giving we don’t care to watch. But that’s why Deadwyler isn’t in, she made SAG but just barely she was most likely 5th
So the SAG and AMPAS members had no issues sitting through that drab mess that is Tar yet they didn’t have time for Till? That doesn’t add up.
January 24, 2023 at 9:55 am #1205263579Honestly, I’m annoyed that Davis and Deadwyler missed at the expense of Riseborough on the outset, but I have more complex thoughts about the issue that go less against Riseborough and more toward the Michelle Williams of it all.
I’m all for any small films that can’t afford the campaign dollars getting recognized by the Academy. I’d rather those types of performances get their due for actors of any place, than a 5th nomination for someone like Williams.
I think of it kind of this way: if Williams wasn’t in a steamrolling Spielberg project nor pulling a category fraud, then we could have had Deadwyler or Davis in her place and still have Riseborough along for the ride. That would’ve been more commendable as a lineup than what we got.
I don’t think Williams was bad or anything, just that it’s such a stereotypical Oscar nomination for this kind of character/role. When we have more varied contenders in the running, it always stings to see the ‘mama’ roles always make the cut, but I don’t know… kind of hard to get upset at a film as small as To Leslie get recognized in acting when it’s so unprecedented.
Down with the performances by former nominees that always ride their buzz all the way to a nomination and don’t feel worthy years from now.

Yes!!! I’m telling you, she’s getting a lot of number one votes.

Correct. It’s something called white guilt.
January 24, 2023 at 10:00 am #1205263609Darling, stop bitching, now go watch To Leslie if you haven’t. Those campaign controversies or not, it’s a great and a win worthy performance.

lol the world is already breaking. have you seen the climate?
in all seriousness, if Andrea wins, Halle Berry will still be in her corner by herself until year 96.

Yes like Andrea is not the nominee we should be rolling our eyes at.
January 24, 2023 at 10:03 am #1205263623Can we talk about how any white actress in Michelle Yeoh’s shoes would be sweeping. She is the lead of the best picture frontrunner that got in everywhere it could realistically get, she has the narrative, the performance and the strength of her film to back it up, let’s not forget that her film was a true box office hit, but she is still going to lose to Blanchett who has 2 Oscar’s. What’s more sad is that a couple years from now, Cate is going to be in another film where her performance will once again be heralded as the undeniable best performance of the decade meanwhile Yeoh will probably not get nominated again ( Just ask Angela Bassett, she went from oscar nomination to waiting by the phone for 18 months for another opportunity )
January 24, 2023 at 10:04 am #1205263630her A-list friends are the establishment.
How is Andrea not embarrassed? Ganging up your rich white friends to buy you a nomination over more deserving black actresses. Waiting for poc actors to get a similar “grassroots campaign” by the industry folks.
