Looks like Andrea Riseborough, Frances Fisher & Co. might be in trouble. Oop.
I started to read this but I’m not giving them my email just to read it.
Someone else posted the other day that To Leslie only had 5 days in theatres when the qualifying run is 7 days. Not sure if it’s true, but if it is, surely that should be considered.
January 27, 2023 at 12:01 am #1205270007I’ll never concede and say Danielle wasn’t better than 90 percent of her competition Michelle Yeoh- that script failed her bad, Dagon ridiculous script, one of the worst for the Oscar Lineups. Michelle Williams- Honey, sometimes, more than often, the director wants way more than the actor themself wants to give. Spielberg called for a messy unconventional blonde, and that’s what he got Andrea Riseborough- Fantastic performance, fantastic, but not top 5 Ana De Armas- CHILE! Whew. The scenes with her mother and her in acting class were exceptional, but I’ll be damned if this wasn’t your average soft core porn you would see on Showtime honey. It was overall a porn performance without the triple X
Till is just another black pain movie. Stop acting like that film did anything new and innovative. I won’t be surprised if black voters were sick and tired of that type of movie as well and didn’t vote for her. It sucks that we don’t have a black actress in the lineup but I don’t blame any other black person who is tired of black women’s prestige pictures all being about historical racist murder and pain.

Some blame has to go to the Academy if the theatrical run wasn’t fulfilled – they should allow a window to check such things before announcing nominees.
PS. I think it’s the LA Times that wrote about the five day run. so it’s not as though it’s from an unreliable source.

I agree that we need prestigious colour blind roles for our women, but since the racist pain one is the available one this year, should it stop it from getting nominated? Majority of the eventual nominees are actually stylish biopics. So it’s not even like the nominated white ones are doing new things

The Academy is reportedly looking at whether or not Andrea Riseborough’s grassroots campaign violated Oscar campaign rules.
The issue will also likely be raised at the board of governors meeting this Tuesday.

January 27, 2023 at 1:37 am #1205270058The system is old and needs to become more modern. I find it almost heartbreaking that several of the Academy members decide NOT to watch certain movies because of their subject matter. That is just ridiculous.
As an Academy member, they should take it seriously and watch movies with fantastic performances.Hopefully next year, there will be a rule that every member in the acting branch has to watch a certain amount of movies before they can cast their ballot. If a member cannot meet these requierements the membership will be cancelled / withdrawn

Damn! After seeing this it looks like there’s no way these white ladies will let Michelle win😑
January 27, 2023 at 1:52 am #1205270071If academy investigates and find nothing, then it will only make Andrea’s chances more strong.the article very clearly stated andrea pushed off two well backed actress who were campaigned by big studios. And there you have it,the studios are angry and baffled. But i don’t think these two are viola and Deadwyler.they are just using black actresses as their cover. Because, as i said before, yeoh got the box office undeniable slot and Blanchett got the critics undeniable slot.viola’s stong point, which is the box office card, got overshadowed by Yeoh’s even more successful box office and acclaim. And Deadwyler’s strong point which is her amazing performance got overshadowed when critics gave Blanchett all the attention and also the studio pushed Blanchett more.the legendary director’s undeniable slot went to Williams. And even now hollywood seems hell bent on keeping at least one ingenuine slot, which went to ana.so that leaves one last slot.which was between colman in a sam mendes film and robbie in a Damien chazelle film with brad pitt. Both with big studio backing. I think colman and robbie and their studios searchlight and paramount are behind this and they are just using viola and Deadwyler as cover.

So,there u have it.the main problem.andrea going for the best actress pose more threat to blanchett then it does for yeoh.another thing, has anyone see blanchett praising Deadwyler in this oscar season? I’m curious, cause performance wise they both gave similar strong performance, till domestically made more money than tar.and both share the same studio. So,if critics adoration were shared equally between these two, studio might’ve hard time deciding to push hardest for which one.in my knowledge, blanchett in the whole awards season never took Deadwyler name in her mouth. Instead praised actresses whose box office performance was more lauded than critics acclaim this year.like viola and yeoh.
