The problem is not her talent, it’s the racist industry and Academy that can easily ignore Black actors, especially Actresses. I think she’ll get a nod in one point, especially because she has goodwill right now due to the whole Best Actress mess this year.
I never said that the industry’s racism wouldn’t factor in, because unfortunately it does. However, it’s dismissive to act like this was her only chance when she’s been doing high profile work, alongside “Till” this year which has allowed her to break through even more.

bull fking sht. it wasn’t a grassroots campaign. she lobbied her white friends that are more famous than her (who honestly probably felt bad that she wasn’t as famous as them) at the expense of two black actresses who pounded the pavement for months just to get no recognition. https://t.co/LZpN4YUO4f

January 28, 2023 at 11:04 am #1205272593Danielle is young and incredibly talented. I’m positive she’ll get another nomination.
Danielle is 41 yrs old. That’s not young in Hollywood.

Saying that her friends probably felt sorry for her that she wasn’t as famous as them is a very weird thing to say lol. Also, when will people realise that the Academy have five slots and also chose Williams and De Armas over Deadwyler and Davis? I know it’s easy to conflate Andrea’s (deserved) nomination with the reasons for their snub, but you’ll have to try harder because it isn’t adding up.
January 28, 2023 at 11:20 am #1205272606It is clear that the Academy has a bias nominating POC in lead acting categories. There are only 4 actors who have ever been nominated multiple times in lead that I can think of off the top of my head: Sidney Poiter, Denzel Washington, Will Smith and Viola Davis (the only actress!!!). Did I miss anyone cause this is really shameful honestly?

It is shameful. I think you missed Morgan Freeman, who was nominated for Best Actor for The Shawshank Redemption and Invictus. (Freeman has a total of 5 acting nominations.)

FYC:
Zar Amir Ebrahimi - Holy Spider (Best Actress)
Ana de Armas, Julianne Nicholson - Blonde (Best Actress, Supporting Actress)
Samantha Morton - She Said (Best Supporting Actress)
Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Inisherin (Best Supporting Actress)January 28, 2023 at 11:51 am #1205272626Watched To Leslie last night and wow Andrea Riseborough was very, very good. I don’t like the way her campaign unfolded, but her performance is very deserving. This just reaffirms my view that Michelle Williams and Ana de Armas are the two that really shouldn’t have been in this line-up.

I mean it is weird but it’s the fact though? i had no idea who Andrea is until this whole controversy. I realized I have seen her in Death of Stalin, which she was really good in the limited time she had.
And once again, it’s not about the quality/talent Andrea gives that got her the nom, but the manner of which it got her there.
No one knows for certain whether it’d be Davis, Deadwyler, etc who got snubbed for in that 6th spot, but just seems quite unfortunately the two (Davis/Deadwyler) who had been consistently doing well all season got shut out and they are black. Meanwhile Andrea & Williams barely got nominations got in and they are white.

Oh yes! Thank you. I knew I forgot somebody. He also got in for Driving Miss Daisy. Still shameful.

De Armas and Williams made more sense to get in than Andrea’s random nod.
Williams was in a strong picture contender and we know how easy is for a white Actress to make it even if she underperforms at precursors.
De Armas proved with GG, AACTA and London Film Critics that she had support even when her film’s reception was abysmal, SAG and BAFTA just gave her a more solid ground to make it.
While all 3 of them are being strongly critized for their nominations, Michelle for her performance, Ana for her film and Andrea for her campaign, De Armas and Williams made sense.

So what if they “made more sense”? Shouldn’t we want the Academy to make outside the box choices? This kind of talk just sounds like bitterness from those who didn’t see the nom coming…..

The weird campaign made Andrea look bad. All sharing the same copy/paste post, everything happening in the last week of voting, actors that never cared for the film suddenly where talking about it and plenty of them were big names. It looks fishy, even if it’s not. It didn’t felt organic, if their support have come a couple of months ago, when the film premiered and kept the exact same campaigning with all the big names pushing for it, it would have looked much better.

How does it make her look bad? Do you think it makes other actors look bad when they do those round table interviews?
