She had every right to campaign, not arguing against that, it’s the simple statement that her nomination pushed out more deserving (Deadwyler) black women and just as deserving (Davis) black women that has y’all pressed.
You’re the one pressed about it. Riseborough was excellent so the comparisons just seem nasty, especially since they are directed solely towards her.
January 29, 2023 at 9:52 am #1205273545For the last time, Andrea as an individual isn’t the problem
she is allowed to campaign.
Omg look through previous threads of people complaining about her campaigning. The revisionist history…

yes, i am pressed that a white woman most likely pushed out a more deserving black actress as a nominee. I am not placing blame at her feet for campaigning as she has the right to do, but it is a completely valid and fair statement that, as a result of her campaign, a more deserving performance by a black actress was omitted. You cant seem to wrap your head around that.

we can complain about her campaigning, while also understanding that she has the right to do it.

globe actress nominees empire of light, babylon, and mrs harris goes to paris each got more oscar noms outside of lead actress than till+blonde+woman king+to leslie combined.

Wrap my head around what? Your opinion? Sorry but that’s not a fact… The Academy were not forced to nominate Andrea so move on and channel this energy towards the BAFTA’s where Deadwyler is nominated.

Andrea as an individual did not violate any campaign rules and is not being investigated for her actions specifically. Most people are calling out the mass email campaign, mobilisation of the Hollywood establishment while co-opting the language of bottom-up ‘grassroots’ movements, and the multiple references to vote counts / the competition by her vocal supporters. None of this was conducted by Andrea herself, so stop taking this as an attack on her or her performance.
I admittedly have seen a few people on Twitter calling her Scamdrea Riseborough which is unfair. It’s unfortunate that the actions of other people have affected her reputation negatively. The effect that the campaign had in upholding existing power structures in Hollywood is more of an issue though.

you said yourself that you think Deadwyler would have been most likely nominated had it not been for Riseborough’s campaign/nom, so unless you’re thinking different now, don’t we share the same opinions?

You would think she had though with how people have been coming for her, not just Fisher.

It is my opinion that Deadwyler was deserving of a nomination, but that still doesn’t make it a fact.

Okay, I never said it was a fact, but that it was very likely and a valid statement to make that Andrea’s nomination resulted in a black actress being omitted.
I hate that Andrea is getting flack for this as her performance was good, but not good enough to push out Deadwyler or Davis. That’s all.
Have a good day though.

Even taking the subjectivity of opinion out of it, pretty much every other awards group deemed her ‘deserving of a nomination’, including SAG. The only televised precursor she missed was proven to be a racist and corrupt institution little over two years ago. She didn’t suddenly not become good enough for an Oscar nomination after hitting everywhere she needed to hit.
