I have a hard time believing Davis will win SAG this year. Last time she was in the running for the Oscar in a race where all five women could have conceivably won. This time, she isn’t Oscar nominated, and even if she was would not have been in the conversation to actually win. I don’t see her being a spoiler in what is clearly a two horse race.
Davis is not winning. I’m in SAG and she isn’t even in talks. She’s probably last place tbh.

Deadwyler please…
At the very least Davis was cited. She deserves it.The Sunne in Splendour.
I prefer my roses whiteJanuary 26, 2023 at 4:49 am #1205268198Given that we expect that Cate prevails in London (BAFTA) and Michelle Yeoh at SAG, honestly, I am baffled by people’s desire for someone else to take SAG. I love both Danielle and Viola, but Yeoh needs SAG. If Cate triumphs at BAFTA, she will need that last podium to make final case for her victory. She simply can’t afford to lose SAG (if Cate is to triumph at BAFTA, which again, is not set in stone).

Sarah Polley is so lovely. Love that Sarah’s subtlety pushing for Deadwyler, to win at one of the big televised ceremonies. Cross fingers, it would be SAG since it is most likely for SAG voters to be swayed for Deadwyler than the jury at BAFTA. Other actors, directors, producers and others in the industry need to follow in her footsteps and push for Deadwyler.
Add the part that I am reading in these threads, that Deadwyler is part of the conversation of wining the SAG from people in SAG themselves. Call me delusional, but I am rooting hard for Deadwyler at SAG in spite of the Oscar snub.
January 26, 2023 at 5:09 am #1205268226Yeoh already has the Golden Globe, and she is the front runner for the Oscar.
People would not feel this strongly about Danielle wining SAG, if she wasn’t snubbed at the Oscars. Danielle easily gave one of the best performances this year in films. Blanchett and Yeoh can afford losing SAG, since they are still in the running for BAFTA and Oscars, and Deadwyler won’t win the BAFTA. According to voters in SAG in here, Deadwyler is part of the conversation to win the SAG.
I don’t think Muchelle is a clear frontrunner for the Oscar and I believe she would need SAG to cement it. This is, of course, under assumption, Cate is winning BAFTA which may not happen.
I understand the sentiment and I don’t disagree. I think Deadwyler is worthy of SAG win, I am just questioning how it may impact the Oscar race. That’s all.
January 26, 2023 at 5:10 am #1205268229Umm no Yeoh cannot afford to lose SAG at all in fact that’s her winning ticket. If she loses SAG even to a non Oscar nominee, it’s over.

I see that perspective, however, there have been actresses who have lost at SAG before, and still win the Oscar. It would not hurt her chances completely if she loses. I am personally hoping that Yeoh wins the Oscar. However, I am still baffled by the Deadwyler’s shut out that I just need her to get that SAG Award.

With all due respect, if you think Deadwyler gave the best performance then it’s appropriate to root for Deadwyler at SAG but at the same time if you are rooting for Yeoh you should be aware that SAG is an award Yeoh cannot afford to lose.

Yes, one can lose SAG and win an Oscar, but in that case, one needs to win BAFTA (McDormand and Colman are the best examples of that). Without CCA, SAG and BAFTA, I doubt Globe – Musical or Comedy makes a strong case on its own.
So, yeah, Michelle Yeoh needs that SAG award. Unless she wins BAFTA.

This. I’ve also seen actresses win SAG and lose Oscar.

Conversely, since Blanchett won the Bafta against Paltrow for Elizabeth, she has 3 baftas already, which could hinder her.
I think we’re all assuming Blanchett has the Bafta locked up, but stats wise, I feel like Yeoh has a slight advantage.

emily blunt, a non-oscar nominee, beat 3 oscar nominees for supporting actress in 2019. anything can happen at sag if the voters are passionate enough.
your mom called, i told her, you're fucking up big time!

Yes, but I doubt that a nomination from 20 years ago impacts much. Also, number three is not some magical limit for BAFTA as we have several actresses having more than 3 BAFTA in acting categories. I think Maggie Smith holds record for 6 BAFTA awards.
I agree we are allo assuming Cate will prevail at BAFTA which may not necessarily be the case. Yeoh can win there, that is true.
It should also be noted that TAR is doing relatively good at British box office, getting $1,2M in 12 days. In comparison, EEAAO earned $6,2M during its theatrical release.
