Michelle Yeoh was born in Malaysia, but she is ethnically Chinese and everybody sees her as Chinese even in Malaysia.
February 4, 2023 at 11:19 am #1205283883i think he’s the opposite version of Frances Fisher , he did something fishy toward Andrea, that’s too much for me….at least Fisher here speaks as voter while Clayton as outsider…on top of that Fisher didn’t do criticize to other contenders
That’s his job.
And besides didn’t you hear? He has been looked down on more “prestigious” boards for years now.
LMAO!!!! Imagine a gaggle of pretentious white gays being the epitome of “”prestige”. Even after they were mercilessly exposed on datalounge. White worship is real y’all.
February 4, 2023 at 11:24 am #1205283894I don’t want to get into a whole debate but I feel it is so American from some people here not to take into account careers some actors have outside the States. It’s like the prestige, the awards and career don’t count if they happened outside US.
They don’t.
Neither do awards like BAFTA and AACTA. I laugh out inside especially when someone mentions something like the AACTA being a precursor.
It’s all about the Oscars honey and THAT’S why you and everyone else is here and unfortunately for you and everyone else it’s an AMERICAN award.

I think it’s more that Americans often fail to take into account performances that are not in the English language, than that they discount “careers some actors have outside the States.” Although, I have to admit it’s true that many Americans seemed to think Bridge of Spies was Mark Rylance’s acting debut and that The Favourite was Olivia Colman’s first film role…

Darling, the AACTA are a decent precursor of international support, as proven the last 2 years…I mean they predicted the Davis/Deadwyler snubs

You missed my point. I wasn’t talking about awards, but perception that someone is nonexistent or struggling if they don’t have a career in American movies. The cases of actresses like Colman, Huppert or Yeoh… All of them have rather successful careers outside States.
As for AACTA not being precursor, I mean… I don’t know how big of an overlap is there between two Academies, but if I am to guess, there would be bigger overlap between AACTA and AMPAS than AMPAS Acting Branch and SAG-Aftra

Best Supporting Actress: Angela BassettFebruary 4, 2023 at 2:04 pm #1205284085I just want to leave this here. One of the best Oscars nominated performances of all time.
I totally disagree. The Lost Doll was unwatchable and her performance was too creepy
Gaga is slaying in Folie à Deux
February 4, 2023 at 2:05 pm #1205284087Unpopular Opinion: Love the way some are passionate about her performance (good for them) but Colman in The Lost Daughter was just okay. Nothing amazing or great there.
Exactly. Buckley stole the show

I know you disagree, you’ve made your dislike of the film very clear several times. And that’s okay, movies appeal to different people, with different tastes. You’re the type who appreciates show-like films, flashy performances, and more conventional narratives.
However, in my opinion you are wildly wrong about this movie. You should give it a chance with no preconceived notions.
It has a lot of layers built through silences and looks, detailed examination (using a lot of symbolism) about the feminine in front of society (the main character sharing the name Leda with the figure of Greek mythology, famous for a poem where she is raped by Zeus and becomes pregnant as a “punishment”, but the poem is more complex than that and raises many questions about the power of women in relation to their own destiny). A focus on the subject of motherhood, how the main character steals a doll (artifice used to train women in domesticity since childhood) from a little girl, how she sympathizes with women in the same situation she found herself in (“unnatural” mothers), how all the women in this film are extremely complex and contradictory, but extremely human in their “flaws”. If you’re up for it, you’ll have a lot about this movie to appreciate.February 4, 2023 at 5:26 pm #1205284303she’s astounding, and if I wasn’t on the DeBose train that season, Buckley would’ve easily been my personal winner, as she was absolutely phenomenal as well.

Should have been a stronger contender this year for Women Talking.
February 4, 2023 at 8:44 pm #1205284440The only tea I know from Michele Yeoh is that she dates Jean Todt (the Former TP of Scuderia Ferrari, Racing team that i support), putting up gread dramatic turn whenever she got a chance and thats it.
All this Yeoh hate is so forced. Screw Malaysian politics

Michelle is not as well liked in Asia as she is now in the USA and is very disliked in most of Malaysia and I suspect in part because nobody in the USA knows about her politics in Malaysia and her support of a very corrupt government that stole billions of dollars – and everybody in the party knew this. It is interesting that she started working in the USA around the time of this huge controversy and Malaysians boycotting her. She supported one of the most corrupt politicians in Malaysia who stole not millions of dollars but billions of dollars from the government fund. Note his party had been in power for the past 60 years and Michelle’s father was part of that party and she followed in her father’s footsteps. If Americans only knew about this, they certainly would not be as enamored with her. She trumpled on the little people. If she hadn’t supported anybody she would not have been blamed but she was part of the same party that wanted no other party to govern Malaysia. It was essentially a dictatorship. I have to admit that I am very conflicted about Michelle. On the one hand I adore Cate Blanchett, on the other hand I am Chinese American and I should support Michelle because we know Cate for sure will be back. But Michelle’s politics are horrendous; it would be almost like supporting Ivanka Trump despite her family connections and political history. Moreover, among Chinese actresses, many have much much better resumes than Michelle. What to do what to do.
I mean… okay, but the Oscars are not about morals, it’s supposed to be about the performance and work done in film.
