Andrea is NOT winning. I mean, there are even articles that the nomination will be rescinded. At this point, she may be getting death threats from unbalanced Twitter users. A discussion opportunity about how pervasive campaigning can be became a witch hunt against a nominee.
January 29, 2023 at 12:38 pm #1205273839I’d like Michelle Yeoh or Ana to win. Yeoh has had a remarkable year and deserves that recognition to her work.
However, it’s the Oscars and I’m predicting Cate to win.January 29, 2023 at 12:41 pm #1205273841Darling, the To Leslie campaign needs to be sent a “Cease and Desist” order to stop deleting Instagram posts until after the Academy investigation is complete.
January 29, 2023 at 12:57 pm #1205273843The Academy is officially reviewing whether or not Andrea Riseborough violated Oscar campaign rules. If the review concludes that she did, then she could face sanctions, up to and including her nomination being revoked.
If Riseborough’s nomination is revoked, it would be the first time since 1929 that a revocation occurred in an acting category. Meanwhile, it is unlikely that her slot would be filled by another actress; on Oscar night the category would have four nominees instead of five.

January 29, 2023 at 1:05 pm #1205273853if (hypothetically) Riseborough’s nom is rescinded (I don’t support that), I hope they do go ahead and give the six place person the slot, I know they won’t want to because it reveals that they were at the bottom of the vote but like … I wouldn’t care i’d have an Oscar nomination lmao.

They won’t and will leave it to four. But Riseborough is IN.

I prefer my roses whiteJanuary 29, 2023 at 1:28 pm #1205273861and what if 6th was secretly globe+bafta nominee emma thompson? that’d probably make her more embarrassed than proud, and would make ampas voters look even worse.

I prefer my roses whiteJanuary 29, 2023 at 3:38 pm #1205273963It’s so disappointing that Hollywood decided that a standard Oscar bait role by a white actress was the role that they needed to champion. Why couldn’t they have pushed for Tang Wei? Where is this energy for performances in horror films that get snubbed year after year? Then they’ll pat themselves on the back and act like getting Andrea an Oscar nom is saving small budget films. It feels entirely astroturfed. If campaigning like this is allowed in the future the Oscars will further divorce themselves from the general public.

Gross. Not her film, but she did feel the need to help deprive multiple women of color of Oscar nominations. I think less of her and several others now.

This take is completely inane. “I love this performance that isn’t getting enough attention or support from its distributor…but I shouldn’t say anything in case a woman of color with a studio backing her winds up not getting a nomination!” Not to mention there’s no way supporting one person could deprive “multiple” people of nominations.
No one is entitled to a nomination. No one has dibs on a nomination. Unless you want to mandate a designated Woman of Color slot to guarantee there’s at least one nominated–which would be highly suspect–they weren’t deprived of anything. The voting isn’t over until it’s over. The nominations weren’t anyone’s until the voting ended.

Sarah Paulsons reaction to andreas nomThis post from her felt… weird, but I do understand having passion for something you enjoyed.
I remember a few years back when Reese Witherspoon said that her friend Naomi Watts (The Impossible) had given the best performance since Meryl Streep in Sophie’s Choice. It did not come off as genuine at all. Her performance was good but… hell no!
January 29, 2023 at 6:17 pm #1205274038Andrea is not winning. She may win over the actors branch, which successfully land her a nomination. But to win the eventual trophy requires votes from the whole organization. It’s questionable that the publicity and passion could spread over every other branch. The person that wins the most precursors will still have the ultimate advantage.
