Viola is safer than Margot. I think Margot is on shaky ground now that Michelle W switched.
Margot is not missing to a genre performance lol. Most of the acting branch will probably include Michelle in both categories and let the chips fall where they may. She might still pull a Lakeith.

Lakeith, Kate happens once in a blue, and voters usually go with what the studios have decided.

Doubt it, but if she does it won’t be for Viola. Not for that type of film.

That’s the whole point. Co-leads can go either way. Michelle’s the type of actress that voters may want to list on both ballots to ensure a nod. If she happens to get more in lead then that’s where she’ll be nominated and vice-versa.
September 22, 2022 at 10:11 am #1205094628Consider: Supportive mothers have been deemed supporting actresses for nearly all of Oscar history. Is it really a problem if Michelle Williams wants to change that conversation? https://t.co/giElZbzI7k

September 22, 2022 at 10:12 am #1205094631I think we have to remember that there’s always a risk that someone could go all the way with precursors and still miss. With the category being this competitive this year, I find it more likely than not. Because of genre and the fact that her costars are also getting a lot of raves, I could actually see Davis getting the Gaga treatment this year.

Likewise just like Gaga her film could very well end up being borderline in the picture race (which probably won’t be the case for people like Yeoh and Williams).
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

Literally everyone who’s seen the movie says it’s a supporting role… Stop trying to girl boss your way out of this one Team Michelle.

Ackie’s film missing festivals kills a lot of buzz for her film and it’s possible the film won’t do well at the box office to justify her nomination. I also think critics will completely annihilate the film.
It’s difficult to drop her though since Ackie arguably has the baitiest role in the season in a singer-biopic. I don’t think the Hudson and Ackie comparisons are fair since while Hudson’s role was baity, she was upstaged by other biopics from the likes of Tammy Faye and Lucille Ball. No one in the current season is playing a notable figure in a biopic aside from Danielle Deadwyler playing Emmette Till’s mother (though I would argue Whitney Houston is more well-known), so this gives Ackie a huge advantage. We’ll have to see how this season unfolds, but I believe it’s too premature to write Ackie off.

That’s why Viola is #6 for me. Cate and Yeoh are locks, Williams is probably a lock too, Margot also seems very safe and, for #5, I’m predicting a biopic perfomance and Deadwyler could be here especially if her perfomance goes very strong. I think Viola is going to be nominate at GG, CC, SAG and (maybe) BAFTA but, unfortunately, she could miss at Oscars like Gaga.

This is a really fresh way to look at this. Fascinating!

I don’t necessarily agree with the histrionics of the headline, but I do think Michelle Williams does have a case to be nominated in Lead Actress. While Williams does command a screen time that is typical of supporting actors, screentime isn’t the determining factor of category placement. I believe Williams lead actress case is supported by her playing a central figure in the film. Williams is essentially playing a fictionalized portrait of Speilberg’s mother and the film is centered around how Speilberg’s mother inspired him to pursue filmmaking. Although Spielberg is not likely to be involved in the campaigning for The Fablemans, I would not be surprised if Spielberg genuinely believed Michelle William’s character is a lead role due to the impact his mother had on his entire career.
