older, traditional voters will go for TG:M and younger, contemporary voters will go for EEAAO.

I don’t really buy the idea that “older, traditional voters” will back Maverick. Maverick is not the sort of film that would ever have won Best Picture a few decades ago.

Back then there was no preferential voting. They’ll likely place it above EEAAO on ballots.

    Neither is EEAAO.

if the medicare eligible voters want to go for one of their own, fabelmans would make more sense.

    Neither is EEAAO.

So? That’s irrelevant to the issue of whether Maverick is the default choice of older voters, as was asserted.

I didn’t say it was the default choice, but I feel like people saying older voters won’t have an affection for TGM is disingenuous. Some people on these boards act like they’ve never interacted with anyone over the age of about 35, let alone sixty, or sought out what the opinion of members of that group are industry wise.

TGM absolutely wouldn’t have won 30 years ago, but a lot of voters from 30 years ago are dead and voters who saw the original at 18 are now 55.

Have we talked about the stat wherein every director winner except 2 have had their film nominated in Editing and Cinematography?

Todd Field has a very good chance to win. I can see BAFTA rewarding him considering he is very much in sync with their style.

field winning director, and everything winning picture/actress, sounds like a good compromise to me.

but also, you just made that up from your head. 2000s alone in cinematography:
    traffic n/a
    beautiful mind n/a
    return of the king n/a
    million dollar baby n/a
    the departed n/a

    Are we under-predicting All Quiet?

All films have things going against them but except All Quiet being an adaption of a previous Oscar winner (and that was like 50,60 years ago) – it has so much strength.

I have All Quiet 2nd in a few categories and 1st in makeup and for a while, Cin.
I keep changing my mind about this as my fear is for varying reasons it could miss in most categories it’s cited for.
    International, yes the win.

    The Sunne in Splendour.
