Inside of me, I really believe that Everything Everywhere All At Once will get a lot of nominations. Well-deserved for a phenomenal film. ❤
September 20, 2022 at 9:37 pm #1205092343Following up on the last several posts, I agree that we should wait to see White Noise’s reception at the NYFF before drawing any firm conclusions about the film’s Oscar prospects, but if White Noise isn’t better received there, then I think we can conclude that it definitely won’t be an Oscar player because NYC is the filmmakers’ home turf, and many if not most NYFF attendees share the taste and sensibilities of the movie’s target audience.

We’ll know more after it premieres at the NYFF but my guess is that once that happens, a lot of people may be sorry they didn’t pick it now, while it is still at 100/1 odds.

I had Till in my BP line up but had to drop to make room for Tár, The Woman King, The Banshees of Insherin and Living (my bold choice of the moment).
And knowing the Academy’s history of nominating for BP biopics about man, but not doing the same when the biopic is about a woman, I will keep Elvis (I picked when it was at 100/1)

I respect those choices, and am retaining for now some films on which I have excellent odds that don’t reflect my current thinking. Those last three or four slots are still very uncertain and with Till, Living, Decision to Leave, and All Quiet on the Western Front all currently at 100/1 odds, I think it makes sense to take at least one or two risks at this point in the awards season— NGNG.

Oooo, you might be on to something with that bold choice of Living.
It’s a contender in Actor, Adapted Screenplay, and Cinematography. If it made all three, it could nab a Best Picture spot as well.
Plus, I feel like there’s always something from Sundance that makes the lineup and Sony clearly has faith in it by releasing it over the Holidays.
