RRR would need a massive Drive My Car critics push and/or win the trifecta.

It could still happen, but I’m not holding my breath.

More like No Noise tbh (had to) https://variety.com/2022/awards/awards/white-noise-oscars-netflix-noah-baumbach-adam-driver-greta-gerwig-1235390331/

Lmao White Noise isn’t looking great, but Clayton writing this light hit piece on it while putting Emancipation in his predictions is hilarious

It’s Top Gun Vs The Fabelmans. I don’t see how anyone else thinks it’s anything different.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is just a popcorn blockbuster movie and no one outside of here is predicting it ..

and Top Gun: Maverick would be … ?

the movie helmed by the highest grossing film director globally would be … ?

The Fabelmans = Mank, The Irishman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, La La Land Women Talking = The Power of the Dog, Roma, Manchester by the Sea Everything Everywhere All At Once = CODA, Parasite, Moonlight,

While I understand the comparisons you’ve made, The Fabelmans is much more about Spielberg’s life than his Hollywood career. And it has much greater popular/emotional appeal than any of the examples you’ve compared it to.
And I think Women Talking would be a better parallel to Parasite and Moonlight than EEAAO.
But I don’t think any of those years are completely analogous. EEAAO has its own charm and if it wins it won’t go entirely on emotional merit/accessibility like CODA, nor for being an unprecedented artistic landmark like Parasite, nor for being a piece of extreme cultural and social relevance like Moonlight. EEAAO dives into all these categories and creates something entirely new, and that could be its greatest asset.

Now that it’s October and we have a decent sense of the field we’re working with, it’s time to stop paying attention to film twitter and start thinking like a steakeater.

The Academy is still a group that consists mostly of boomer white male filmmakers.

With that demographic in mind, what movies are they going to be the most excited about in late December?

Figure those out before you start making room for “hipper” films like Everything Everywhere that might largely rely on recent membership changes to get in.

Top Gun would obviously be a bigger threat at BP Than EEAAO. Is this even a serious argument? One made over a billion dollars, one made a whopping 100 million. Stop it already. Top Gun is Miles ahead of EEAAO. No one is even talking about EEAAO outside of here.
