I am SO curious to find out what reception She Said will receive— I’m seeing it tomorrow at the NYFF. We should start to get some leaked reactions on Twitter in 3 or 4 hours after this morning’s press screening ends; the embargo on reviews lifts this evening around 9:00 p.m. EST. I could be completely wrong but I expect the movie to be much better than some of you seem to be predicting, and especially because so many of the year’s highly anticipated movies have disappointed, I think there’s a real opportunity for it to be an awards player this season. We’ll soon know whether that’s a realistic possibility.
I’m excited too, it seems like one of those that was underestimated for ages but might actually be good? Especially hoping that Samantha Morton gets some notices

I’d really like to be wrong in my hesitations with the film. It’s very possible that the trailer did it no favors. Its chances in Adapted Screenplay more than solid either way, and I’m interested in Mulligan and Morton’s performances.
This usually only applies to films with less than like 5,000 votes on IMDb. With more than 15,000 votes and being released for a month, The Woman King’s IMDb rating (6.6) is certainly not just a rigged number suffering from review bomb at this moment.
Actually that movie’s IMDb rating has slowly risen a lot since more votes came in. It was under 6 at one point.

I’m black and I love diversity and love that Hollywood is starting to cast more diverse for Superhero movies and and LOTR/Game of Thrones type fantasy shows and usually I am all for what idiots call “forced diversity” but I’d rather they not add pointless and nonsensical racial diversity to a movie based on a real racially homogeneous group. The problem was never all white casts, the problem was that Hollywood wanted to do nothing but all white casts. We should all be fine with all white casts when it makes sense and as long as they continue to make movies that don’t have all white casts alongside those movies.
Can definitely see Martin McDonagh making it into best director after seeing The Banshees of Inisherin.

I am absolutely restless about the reactions to She Said. The temperature in the awards world recently seems to be that people are expecting it to be middling, but I really think it’ll turn out to be better than anticipated.

I think it’s been very underestimated in Best Actor. I know Brendan Fraser has a lot of passion and his perfomance seems big but I can see Colin winning GG (Comedy or Musical) and the BAFTA, especially if The Whale isn’t a strong Best Picture contender, and we saw that Colin won Brendan at Venice. Kerry Condon could have a push for critics too, saw many who watched the movie and said her perfomance is great and has a strong role in the movie.

I know the embargo on SHE SAID literally just lifted, and I’ve read some of the reviews that are out. The consensus seems to be that it is middling. Nothing outstanding, nothing terrible. Mostly favourable reviews, but no one seems really passionate about it. I don’t think it’s going to happen in Picture. I mean it could? But I don’t know.
I’m so happy to hear about the reviews for TILL though. Danielle Deadwyler is an amazing actress.
Till has a 78 on Metacritic, which is quite impressive for a biopic. Last time I checked it was 70, so it’s getting ravesss. Can’t believe people on GD finished the film as a by the numbers biopic. Like y’all are aware Till is from the same director of Clemency right—a haunting and superbly written character study. Maybe Till makes it in Adapted screenplay.
