Once again, decades even after Titanic people stay underestimating what James Cameron can do.

Let them underestimate him to their own peril.

No Babylon is not the next Nightmare Alley or Mank. It’s a bigger awards flop.

There’s not a single movie from a streamer on AFI’s list. Nothing from Netflix, Apple Plus or Amazon. I wonder whether or not that’s a coincidence.

I’m actually wondering if Nope could pull off a Nightmare Alley, and I mean in a good way lol. Ride into a Best Picture nom off the back of the tech categories (I think it’s in the mix for VFX, Score, Sound, Production Design) PLUS it’s general popularity (it’s almost definitely going to end the year in the BO top 20)

The Woman King did really well here, but I’m still a little cautious and want to see how it does at the Globes.

Making both AFI and NBR is a big plus but on its worst day it could perform more like The Tragedy of MacBeth, which also made both lists.

Films that didn’t make it in both AFI and NBR but could get in at the Oscars:

-Babylon (can be the next Vice I guess).

-Aftersun (needs huge critical support from the trifecta like Amour and Drive My Car. It needs to win big at LAFCA and NSFC).

-Living (could be a film the british bloc disproportionally likes similar to Darkest Hour, Lion, and Philomenia).
