I’m starting to feel tired of this season already.
Very few great movies with real potential once again.
But just like with blockbusters and box office overral, I hope 2023 is a much better year.
The amount of movies scheduled for 2023 and box office potential is…mind boggling. Such a good schedule. Mind you, I’m a box office fanatic.
Taking Endgame out, it has 2019 potential.
And hopefully, the same is for awards movies.
It seems that the covid production delays are catching up. And 2023 we’re getting a normal schedule.
A bunch of 2022 movies still got moved to 2023.

She Said 90
Everything Everywhere All at Once 89
The Fabelmans 83
Aftersun 79
The Menu 78
The Banshees of Inisherin 75
Tar 71
Bones and All 63Neither Women Talking nor The Whale have been released yet so they don’t have RT audience scores, but my guess is that when they do, She Said’s will be higher.
I’m now skeptical that She Said will be able to overcome the barrage of negative publicity it has already received and secure a BP nomination, but it’s a shame that the film’s awards chances will be so strongly impacted by a foolish release strategy. The film should never have opened wide on 2000 screens. Both Spotlight and All the President’s Men had initially opened on a very limited number of screens, and subsequently gradually expanded the number of theaters they were in after word of mouth grew.
She Said isn’t a film for everyone, but it’s a MUCH better film, and is much more popular with the audiences who have actually seen it, than one would think after reading this week’s trade publications.
If She Said had been distributed on a streamer such as Apple or Netflix, I think it would have had a MUCH stronger shot at a BP nomination.

I haven’t seen She Said. I’ve been busy with grad school applications as of late and am behind on a lot of film releases including The Menu, Bones and All, The Fablemans, and Glass Onion. I do think your argument about about She Said is strong since it has a raving audience score and an impressive “A” cinemascore. I wasn’t expecting a rapturous audience reception for the film due to its subject matter. I really think the film could have done better if it was a limited release. Ironically, The Fablemans is attempting a limited strategy currently. At the same time, I don’t see many people from the industry talking about She Said as other industry members did with The Woman King for example. If you could share some of the industry’s responses it would be valuable to everyone attempting to prognosticate She said’s Oscar nominations. I recently saw Milligan is participating in Variety’s Actor on Actor interviews, so it seems Mulligan is on that campaign trail.

Absolutely. The Woman King has already taken in over $92 million at the box office. I was primarily comparing She Said’s RT audience score with “prestige” pictures still in the BP nomination hunt which seem unlikely to gross over $100 million, and which some may also wind up viewing as box office disappointments.

Seeing Aftersun have a score this low is disappointing to read.
