December 17, 2022 at 7:20 am #1205198758In the year of Morbius and Jurassic World: Dominion, you choose Bones and All as one of your worst films.
Variety is actually a joke.
December 17, 2022 at 8:14 am #1205198780Does anyone know whether the nominations will still be shown live on YouTube? Would be a major bummer if we were unable to check them out live from another country. It was so annoying to read the Globes nominees from tweets.
For Your Consideration:
The Banshees of Inisherin in ALL categories, including:
- Best Picture
- Best Director
- Best Actor (Colin Farrell)
- Best Supporting Actor (Brendan Gleeson)
- Best Supporting Actor (Barry Keoghan)
- Best Supporting Actress (Kerry Condon)
- Best Supporting Actress (Sheila Flitton)
- Best Original ScreenplayLetterboxd: Ray_In_Bruges
December 17, 2022 at 8:25 am #1205198789everyone’s loving Banshees and throwing nominations at it left and right. However, they may rather give original screenplay to EEAAO, so why not give Director to McDonagh? If it’s a Top 3 BP Contender, some people may say “well he deserves It and its been a long time coming”. He stands a better chance than The Daniels imo.

Or maybe Director for Daniels and Original Screenplay for McDonagh. EEAAO might find confusing for some whereas Banshees is dialogue-heavy, the type where the voters are often going for.
December 17, 2022 at 9:07 am #1205198827Huns, I’ve now seen several critics organizations give Picture and Original Screenplay to Banshees while giving Director to EEAAO, so this is a very plausible scenario that may happen on Oscar night. I’m really not convinced this is Spielberg’s year because it’s so rare for directors to get a 3rd Directing Oscar and even luminaries like Scorsese only have one. So I think that people are basing the Spielberg prediction based on how famous he is and the Toronto People’s Choice win rather than on the Oscar voters simply voting for what they like.
December 17, 2022 at 9:33 am #1205198849I watched The Banshees of Inisherin yesterday and I can see a scenario where Everything Everywhere All At Once wins Best Director while The Banshees of Inisherin wins Best Original Screenplay (along with Best Actor) as it’s happening in some places, even if EEAAO wins Best Picture too.
December 17, 2022 at 10:05 am #1205198886I just saw Avatar 2 and I’m personally leaning towards Cameron taking director again. It’s a technical Marvel. One thing Cameron is gonna do is push the boundaries of Cinema in that aspect.
December 17, 2022 at 11:42 am #1205198960I watched 2 of the best films this year today: Avatar 2 and The Fabelmans. While TAR remains the best BP contender to me, these 2 didn’t disappoint, especially after I saw so many underwhelming reactions about Fabelmans here.
[Avatar2]: A technical marvel with an unremarkable plot
For Oscars: If this doesn’t get a BD nom I’ll riot lol. The whole final battle is so well-directed. However, it’s not winning any “best film” from any award for sure. The screenplay is underwhelming.[The Fabelmans]: Among all the “director’s personal letter to cinema” films these years, I think this is the best one. Beautiful, well-paced drama with a touching screenplay
For Oscars: Yeah Banshees and EEAAO still stand a better chance at winning Screenplay, but for BD, I can totally see Spielberg winning, given his competition this year. As for BP, it may sound weird but I think being a personal and autobiographical movie is the biggest hurdle for it to win.December 17, 2022 at 12:43 pm #1205199023Was Glass Onion 11 at Critics Choice?
December 17, 2022 at 1:33 pm #1205199076In this decade the best director winner was the critics darling except for the king speech and birdman which won best picture and the revenant which won best actor the Daniels have been doing great with regionals I am thinking they could possibly upset Spielberg
December 17, 2022 at 1:41 pm #1205199095I am genuinely puzzled that The Fabelmans is in first place in four categories: BP (I expect that to change within a month or so), Best Director, Best Cinematography (huh? Why? The camerawork is fine but there are so many better choices they could make and TF is not top five), and Best Score (is this because it’s John Williams? I genuinely do not understand this one at all! Why is The Woman King’s phenomenal one of a kind score not really in the conversation? A lack of name recognition for Terence Blanchard? TWK has the best score of the year imo). I think the movie will wind up empty-handed on Oscar night. I enjoyed the movie but it’s definitely not top five in any of those four categories.

They probably have mistaken it for West Side Story, which I think was more deserving to win (especially for Director and Cinematography) than The Fabelmans.
December 17, 2022 at 7:43 pm #1205199392Darling, the Feckin’ had a far better cinematography than Spielberg’s Annoying Home Movie. It’s baffling why that topped the odds.
Those beautiful sea shots makes me wants to live in Inisherin (but without those crazy people and stuff lol).
