IF the movie isn’t going to win any of the other big categroes, I could see Quan being where the support solidifies. Regardless of how voters may feel about the movie otherwise, he’s got a killer narrative and he could seem like a good place to throw the movie a bone.

For the record that’s not what I’m predicting, I think it’s fully in the mix for Actress, Screenplay, even Picture, (and s. actor ofc) but it’s a scenario I could see.

Why is Legend James Hong not in the prediction centre? He deserves to be in the conversation for a nomination, too!

Barry Keoghan can get in. It’s Searchlight.

I’m just not sure who would miss in this scenario.

I think this category is really like 6, 7 at most deep. Key Hu Quan, Gleeson, Whishaw are consensus picks. Then it feels like it’s just down to whether The Fabelmans or Banshees gets a double dip, and personally I’m betting Banshees. I think there will be a lot of good will for Hirsch, but Dano will be the only Fabelmans actor to ultimately make it, clearing the way for Keoghan.

Everyone outside of that crew feels very peripheral at best. I think Pitt’s done, even with Babylon still unseen. Micheal Ward or BTH sneaking in would be so welcome, but they would very likely be the only ATL nominations for their movies and I just don’t think that’s gonna happen. Then this category drops off a cliff after that (there’s some buzzing in actress about the supporting actor performances in Till, I wonder if anyone there can make some noise? I haven’t gotten to see it yet but something to maybe keep an eye on?)

Jeremy Strong and Anthony Hopkins shouldn’t be written off for Armageddon Time. That film has quietly done well with critics and will have some segment of AMPAS support. Strong and Hopkins also have industry on their side. I know it would be strange for them to show up without other nominations for the film, but it has happened much more often in this category than in Supporting Actress (and as recently as 2019 with Hanks). Hopkins especially fits the profile of someone that could show up here over a coattail.

Currently predicting Hopkins to get in for Armageddon Time as the Oscar winning veteran slot similar to JK Simmons this year and Kathy Bates for Richard Jewell (a lone nominee as well). The grand applause when Hopkins was presenting Best Actress shows how much love there is for Hopkins.

I have Hopkins in too for the same reasons. I would be surprised if he missed SAG, considering I’m not convinced that all of the actors most often mentioned in this thread will make it in there. Armageddon Time mostly got positive notes at NYFF now too, and even those that didn’t like it much still noted Hopkins. I think he’s in this race.

I definitely think Ke Huy Quan and Gleeson are very safe at SAG, but I can see Dano being vulnerable in favor of Hirsch at SAG, or Dano just misses entirely. We saw this year how SAG can be a bit erratic when it comes to nominations seeing how Dench missed here of all places, but most notably Hinds missed for a performance that got in everywhere (including BAFTA). Hinds played the joyful uncle too and was a respected veteran, so the miss is surprising. It’s possible Dano can also miss since his notices for The Fablemans wasn’t quite as high as some other performances and there isn’t a consensus between him and Hirsch.

Yeah…kinda blanked on Hopkins. Agree he’s still in the conversation.

Will Armageddon Time have a robust enough campaign, though?

Its Focus Features and it’s probably their second priority so should have a decent campaign.

Highkey, all they need to do is make sure they send out SAG screeners.
