I added Hanks to the predictions and took out Eddie Redmayne. As the kids say “YOLO” lol or something like that.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 5, 2023 at 6:53 pm #1205222199I don’t know, we’ll see about Hanks. It’s worth noting that even when the Globes went crazy for Elvis they still snubbed him, so his performance may not be as liked as the movie is. I do think he’s happening at SAG, Jared Leto in House of Gucci all over again.
Yeah, that’s step-back. I think as Butler picks up steam (like a GG win) then Hanks coattails. I see it like a Simmons nom (misses GG despite the film being well liked there + getting in at another precursor + lead actor of film is secure for a nom).

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 6, 2023 at 4:56 am #1205222785Even though none of the Fabelman men made the BAFTA shortlist, I’m still confident Paul Dano will be nominated at the Oscars.
He has no overdue factor with Globes and BAFTA like he does with AMPAS, so he can afford those misses.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 6, 2023 at 5:07 am #1205222824Still predicting Dano for now but yeah, Fabelmans don’t look like the big movie it once looked like to make Dano happens without precursors, his chances for me lies with SAG.
I’m hoping he happens because having to choose from Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Eddie Redmayne for 2 slots is gonna be painful.

January 6, 2023 at 5:10 am #1205222843I hate to say it, but I can see Harrelson get in over Dano. Harrelson oddly has a lot of international support from AACTA and now BAFTA. People have seen The Fabelmans right? Dano’s role is too reserved and internal. I can’t even think of an Oscar clip to choose for him besides when he reads a letter.

An even bigger crime, Tom Hanks is on the longlist. He was the worst part of the film.

3. Pitt

5. HanksPitt is the standout in Babylon, and he has the name recognition to be the sole representative of the movie. Hanks will coattail with the Butler sweep.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 6, 2023 at 7:08 am #1205223293I’m predicting Redmayne as well. I’m still not predicting Hanks.

Harrelson? God damn NO. He doesn’t even have the role!
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 6, 2023 at 8:38 am #1205223488Maybe he stands a better chance than I think but Eddie Redmayne is just:
Daniel Bruhl in Rush
Timothee Chalamet in Beautiful Boy
Michael Shannon in 99 Homes
Ruth Negga in Passing
Hong Chau in DownsizingAnd the list goes. These kind of noms rarely happen. Although it’s true that The Good Nurse has more visibility than all of those.
The fact that Wishaw made it in even with Women Talking issues makes me think the british branch will pull through for him. He’s Paddington!
