Any buzz around Gabrielle Union in The Inspection?

She’s received praise in some of the reviews and reactions I’ve seen but I really can’t see the film going anywhere beyond the Indie Spirits. It’s, at best, A24’s third candidate, and no evidence in recent history suggests they can even juggle two films. Just for A24 films she’s vying for a place with Hsu, Curtis, Chau and Morton in films that are much more present in awards conversations. She’d also be up against actresses from likely Picture contenders like Women Talking, Babylon, Banshees of Inisherin and possibly still The Fabelmans. In short, I think she has buzz but not enough for an Oscar nom.

She’s received a fair amount of praise but as for “awards buzz,” it seems as though Jeremy Pope is sucking up all the oxygen in the room for The Inspection.

Dolly De Leon could be the big surprise of the season.

I took Janelle Monae out of my predictions I expected more praise for her, I feel like Glass Onion is a cast film.

I vote that we just change the rules and make one exception to allow Hustlers to be eligible this year so they can right their wrongs.

Why is Angela Bassett not in the predictions? I was just about to add her

Darling, Monmie Dearest Nicholson’s performance in Blonde is very brief, but she leaves a huge impressions throughout the film. A fearless and magnetic performance by an underrated talent.

Hsu is a lock. All credit to the sheer power of her performance for that.

I am surprised not many are predicting Nina Hoss for TAR

    Any reason for that?

If I could choose the nominees as of right now…

Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inishirin
    Clare Foy, Women Talking
Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All at Once
    Thuso Mbedu, The Woman King
    Gabrielle Union, The Inspection

Not as well known as most of the others and maybe some doubts about TAR’s overall strength? IMO it has Best Picture nominee all over it. Blanchett should be able to coattail Hoss here.

Maybe she misses SAG like Hawkins did for Blue Jasmine, but she’ll have some international support on top of TAR fans.

It was announced today that Nina Hoss has just signed to be represented by CAA. I wonder if this move is tied in part to a push for an Oscar nomination.

The film feels like the Blanchett show so I don’t see many caring for the supporting cast.
