Interestingly, this was a pickup shot that the Daniels realized they needed while they were in editing in post. The shot of Hsu in the car wasn’t even originally supposed to be in the movie.
Wow really? It’s a great last minute addition then since it adds more depth to her character; she isn’t just some rebellious girl, she’s hurting inside. And audiences (hopefully) can get where Jobu Tupaki is coming from.
Just another little reason in my book why Stephanie Hsu is an indispensible aspect of EEAAO as much as Yeoh and Quan are.
Agree. In the end, Hsu’s Joy is that one antithesis that means so much to Evelyn’s character arc.

Also, this giggle/smile she gives after beating the officer with giant dildos wasn’t scripted either. The Daniels had already called cut, but decided to keep her impromptu reaction in the final edit. Just another little reason in my book why Stephanie Hsu is an indispensible aspect of EEAAO as much as Yeoh and Quan are.
I really hope they don’t snub her. She is marvelous in EEAAO. Oscar winning performance.
September 16, 2022 at 1:55 am #1205085899If Sink somehow gets in because they want her to be the next big thing “it-girl” over Chau and Hsu, I’m gonna vomit. But I don’t think it’s happening.
September 16, 2022 at 3:15 pm #1205086713Conventional wisdom says Hong Chau is likelier to coattail Fraser for The Whale, but maybe she makes it in for The Menu instead?
Searchlight is far more formidable than A24.

“Terrific performances and a crackling, acid-dipped script, with Kerry Condon a stealth MVP as Farrell’s long-suffering sister”
Nice to see Kerry get singled out by Ty Burr in his RT caption. Hopefully a sign she’ll get more mentions throughout the season.

Darling, I love snobbish picks in everyone’s predictions, but putting that Linoleum girl over The Girl With The Goofy Wig (pretty much a lock) is ridiculous.
