Does anyone feel like Jessie Buckley has been MIA when it has come to Women Talking‘s campaign? She obviously doesn’t need to campaign to get in (the Gotham nod probably suggests she’ll get a decent critics group nomination haul, at least with the regional groups) but I feel like I’ve seen Foy and Whishaw everywhere.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I have a feeling the studio is pushing Foy more because they know she has a better chance to win because of the monologue she has.

November 21, 2022 at 9:26 am #1205162719Anyways, i dont wanna hear crap about angelas performance when they gave laura dern a oscar for the worst “oscar” performance ive seen in a while.
Academy needs to get over their marvel/sci-fi bias for acting. If you love eeao you should hope the same.

Buckley is filming back-to-back projects. Just wrapped Wicked Little Letters with Olivia Colman, and currently working on Fingernails with Riz Ahmed. So, her missing events is due to her shooting schedules.

November 21, 2022 at 10:10 am #1205162784The only thing I take from these Sunset Critics Awards nominations is initial confirmation of my suspicion that studio category placements are unlikely to be challenged by critics groups.
November 22, 2022 at 7:11 am #1205163508JLC just made Indie Spirit, Hsu in Breakthrough.
November 22, 2022 at 7:17 am #1205163513What a shame they put Curtis for Supporting but relegated Hsu to Breakthrough
November 22, 2022 at 7:22 am #1205163540Curtis will be nominated for an Oscar in Hsu place.
November 22, 2022 at 7:32 am #1205163571I don’t want to live in a world where Jamie Lee Curtis is nominated over Stephanie Hsu. 😭

This is my impression too (plus Foy seems to be a strong campaigner for the film in general). The Robert Altman Award at the Spirits is a good get for the film, but it might be worrisome if critics/awards bodies continue to punt on elevating one of the Supporting cast.
It was interesting to see the Spirits primarily nominate Lead Actresses yet Supporting Actors.
November 22, 2022 at 7:57 am #1205163670Unpopular Opinion – Close choice, but I find Noemie Merlant more worthy of nomination than Hoss in Tar
November 22, 2022 at 9:45 am #1205163859I want to see Gabrielle Union happen here. She was so good in The Inspection and it was a proper supporting performance as well! (Not a co-lead like a lot of contenders). She was definitely channeling that bad mom energy Mo’nique had in Precious!
November 22, 2022 at 10:03 am #1205163903I know Tar will have a very uphill battle to get any acting nominees outside of Blanchett, but I actually think the film’s best supporting performance, which is currently my supporting actress winner, was given by Noemie Merlant…
Oscar FYC!!:
Best Picture: Bones and All
Best Actress: Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie)
Best Actor: Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin)
Best Supporting Actress: Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness)
Best Supporting Actor: Brian Tyree Henry (Causeway)November 22, 2022 at 11:53 am #1205164105I know Tar will have a very uphill battle to get any acting nominees outside of Blanchett, but I actually think the film’s best supporting performance, which is currently my supporting actress winner, was given by Noemie Merlant…
I can see that, but Hoss is the one getting all the attention in Supporting Category. The movie is even promoted through Blanchett/Hoss partnership and Cate and Field have been very vocal about how amazing Hoss is and how great it was to work with her. If anyone is getting that nomination from TAR, it is Hoss. But yeah, Merlant certainly had meatier role and would be a worthy nominee.
