I still have no idea what to make of this category. Half of the movies have at least one Supporting Actress for nomination, some are even co-lead, which is always a free-pass card here.
Buckley, Condon, Foy – seems to be lock given that their movies are in Top5 of Best Picture, so I doubt they will miss.
Now, I suppose only one of EEAAO ladies will get nomination. Although I am not crazy for either of them, Curtis does seem to have more star-power to get it.
And then we have 5th slot and some 10 different names for it. If TAR outperforms, I can see Hoss in. If “She said” does well, it is Mulligan. Then, perhaps Academy will want to honor Black Panther and give that one nomination to Bassett. Chau and Mbedu will certainly be worthy of nomination. I also hear great things about De Leon.
I doubt any movie will get more than one acting Oscar this year. Given my “spread the joy” philosophy, I think this will be the category they will award “Women Talking”. Unless they do decide to go with Fraser, so Condon may be that award for “Banshees”. Similarly, if Quan wins Supporting Actor (which I really hope so, but I haven’t seen Banshees), that may help Condon. Someone will lose big in these acting categories. I still have no idea who. Banshees, perhaps?

November 27, 2022 at 5:50 pm #1205168573Huns,
Carey Mulligan is winning this race. She was superb in she said.
November 27, 2022 at 5:54 pm #1205168577I have absolutely no idea who my personal winner in this category is so I’ll just post who my personal award nominees are as of right now.
– Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin
– Dolly de Leon, Triangle of Sadness
– Claire Foy, Women Talking
– Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All at Once
– Aimee Lou Wood, Living*I haven’t seen Black Panther : Wakanda Forever, Glass Onion, The Inspection, Tar, She Said and The Whale yet.
I would also support nominations for Nicole Beharie for Breaking, Vicki Berlin for Triangle of Sadness, Jessie Buckley for Women Talking, Judith Ivey for Women Talking, Lashana Lynch for The Woman King,
Rooney Mara for Women Talkingand Keke Palmer for Nope (even though she’s lead). I have my favourites in this category of course but I really hope the winter awards diversify things a bit and we get a range of names recognised at the televised awards.FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I can honestly see the case for both, but my reason for having her in supporting is because that’s where I heard she’s being campaigned.
