Let’s remember Chadwick Boseman. Everyone said same thing, he even had the posthumous factor, and he won everything(except BAFTA) leading up to Oscar. DO NOT think Bassett is a done deal. Many are already chattering “this isn’t an Oscar worthy performance”

I don’t really see a correlation here. Hopkins was a legendary actor with a leading role in a Best Picture nominee. Who is supposed to be the Hopkins in this category?

The Whale couldn’t even get into Screenplay over Top Gun: Maverick, so Chau is out. Curtis and Hsu may cancel each other out. Condon is the only one that could pull a BAFTA upset but she’s nowhere near Hopkins’ status.

On the other hand, Bassett will win the SAG and a BAFTA loss won’t matter, since it’s a surprise that she was even nominated. She is winning the Oscar.

Nobody needs a sweep to win, dear Robbie stan. Still with this “superhero bias” non-sense when she was nominated for every single precursor, including the BAFTA. Plus Wakanda Forever even made it to the PGAs, showing that people liked the film. Angela Bassett will hold her Oscar in her hands and you will be still here crying. The “Marvel bias” died when Black Panther was nominated for Best Picture.

Once again, Condon will probably win the BAFTA but it won’t matter since she is no Hopkins and the American voters will support Bassett.

Do you know when was the last time the winner of the CC + GG for Best Supporting Actress lost the Oscar? Never. Yep, you heard that right. Since the first edition of the CC Awards in 1996 nobody has ever lost the Oscar for BSA after winning the GG too.

Will Smith, Frances McDormand, Olivia Colman, Anthony Hopkins all won for leading roles. The only Supporting winner who pulled a real upset in these last years was Mark Rylance, but then again the “frontrunner” Stallone didn’t even win the SAG.

This is why I’m saying that Bassett only needs the SAG to win and not the BAFTA, just like Regina King taught us.

I think the pal from Banshees will win. She is in a best picture movie, nominated in many important categories. The only true shot to win an acting movie for the film.

Bassett is in a pop-corn movie. Were Bassett in other type of movie, she was a lock, but being in a marvel movie… it will be a really surprised if she wins.

Who i want to win? Jamie Lee Curtis.

no one knows kerry condon while actors who surprise like olivia or mark rylance are known by most actors from smaller independent film or theatre television roles

It has been very interesting watching people continue move the Post when it comes to Angela Bassett.

They Claimed she would lose the Golden Globe to JLC (She Won)
They claimed she would be snubbed at BAFTA (She Got In)
They Claimed she would be snubbed at Oscars (She Got In)
Now they Claim she lose because the Oscars wont award a Marvel film in the Acting categories.

I’m looking forward to her proving folks wrong again.

This bias against Bassett’s genre film has got to go.

I mean I don’t think it’s smart to call ANYTHING a lock when we haven’t even gotten any industry award winners yet, but Bassett is definitely looking like a solid frontrunner.

Bassett is a lock. Who do you think is 2nd and 3rd right now?

Condon and Curtis. Once they’re nominated, the performance itself is secondary.

I just finished watching BP:WF  and we really played ourselves by not predicting Bassett for a nomination pre – nomination. The consensus is that she is winning because of narrative and that makes me believe that people in these forums haven’t seen the film. She is truly magnificent , her delivery of the line “ your brother is with the ancestors” alone was enough to make a case for why she deserved to be nominated and that’s just the first two minutes of the film. The whole funeral sequence followed by the UN meeting, its literally clip after clip for her which comes to a climatic peak in her Big Oscar scene ( you all know which one, that’s how brilliant she is)

I really hope she wins, she has the performance plus the narrative.
