I wouldn’t mind if both ladies in EEAAO gets snubbed in favor of Janelle Monae or something 🤭
January 21, 2023 at 8:34 pm #1205256838Finally got around to She Said tonight, and Mulligan really is great, but total category fraud.
Jennifer Ehle, though. Magnificent.
January 21, 2023 at 8:34 pm #1205256840Nina Hoss definitely does more than just stare and she elevates a character without much dimension with her self-assured performance. But this is a very internal story, exploring the central character and leaving everyone around her as additional material. We don’t know anything about Sharon, the character doesn’t have a relevant arc, we don’t have insight at any point on what she thinks about everything that’s happening with her wife, the final discussion is the only moment where she has an active voice in the story and even so, it is an ephemeral moment that tells us almost nothing about the character’s positioning. But Hoss does her best to give glimpses of what Sharon could be, for me it’s not enough to overcome a shallowly written character, but Jamie Lee Curtis and Dolly De Leon are well tipped to be nominated, I would prefer Hoss any day that the two…

and this is why the music forum 🚬 shouldn’t be speaking on film!
January 21, 2023 at 8:39 pm #1205256848She’s going to be the big name snub of the season. Her and Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams missed SAG and BAFTA, it wouldn’t be a shocking snub really. She’s as likely as Margot Robbie right now. But Jamie Lee Curtis got in everywhere, for a very weak performance, so that imo would be a shocking snub.

Especially Curtis. Had she been a previous nominee, she likely would have coattailed with EEAAO, but even given how strong EEAAO is, I do not care. It’s a laughably borderline bad silly performance. It’s fun for sure, but given that JLC is not an Academy Darling, she’s not getting her career nomination for this.
I’m not 100% sure but I can see it happening. Who knows… I hope it doesn’t because it is a silly performance and there are several more memorable and deserving supporting female performances from last year. Especially if she gets in at the expense of Hsu, that would be the worst.

LOL. I’ll admit she has way more to do than Curtis, but I’m sorry her emotional acting scenes with Michelle were oh so bad! It was fun watching her, but I honestly thought she was so bad in this. I encourage you to see The Inspection. Catch a real one for a change. A supporting performance that lasts all but 10-15 minutes, but Gabrielle Union bodied over half the girls in contention this season.
I saw The Inspection some time ago. I didn’t care for either Jeremy Pope or Gabrielle Union.
We already know you’re an EEAAO hater so it’s no surprise that you don’t like Hsu’s performance, but personally I think she’s fantastic in the movie, including the scenes you mentioned. But this is personal opinion. Out of the SAG nominees she gives my favorite performance but I haven’t watched The Whale yet, I think Hong Chau would be my number one if I had seen it and I also think she’s fantastic in The Menu.
But from the prediction center alone I would nominate all these before Curtis: Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Aimee Lou Wood, Dakota Johnson, Kate Hudson, Samantha Morton, Lashana Lynch, Zoe Kravitz, Janet McTeer…January 21, 2023 at 9:31 pm #1205256935Judge me, but I would nominate Janelle Monáe.
