Hawk says she wouldn’t be in their personal top 5 but that she is deserving. I don’t know if I understand. If you consider a performance deserving of an Oscar nomination, wouldn’t it be logical for it to be in your top 5?

What I mean is that though I personally would not nominate her, I consider it a great performance that is not undeserving of being nominated. There are lots of great performances every year, and people all have their own personal opinions on which ones are the best. I’m just saying that I totally understand why people liked the performance enough to want to nominate her over others. A lot of people on the forum don’t understand why people voted for her or say it’s just because voters like JLC as a person/her career, and I’m just trying to give the perspective of someone who really enjoyed JLC’s performance. Acting/art is subjective and I respect that people have different opinions of what is the “best.” As long as I really like the performance, I’m generally happy that it got nominated.

I understand believing there were five worthier performances, but I don’t understand thinking that someone doesn’t deserve a nomination because they got it over someone else— there were four other spots available.

I think is very subjective, because for example, the year Stallone was nominated for Creed, Idris Elba was not nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Beasts of No Nation, a big injustice. Bardem wasn´t nominated for Skyfall, and there were De Niro in Silver Linning Playbook and Alan Arkin in Argo. So, I don´t know there many factors in game, but yeah, every year the top 5 in each category, usually is compelling.
