The way it just dawned on me that Elvis got shut out completely in wins…
Between EEAAO taking 7 and All Quiet taking 4, half of the BP nominees were left empty-handed. Tar, The Fabelmans, Banshees, Elvis and Triangle of Sadness all left with nothing.

Traditional Oscar bait isn’t hitting with the AMPAS like it used to.

I saw other pictures from this and she does have an Oscar! I’m thinking that she just put her arms around as a pose and didn’t realise everyone else was holding the Oscars out.

IDK about that , For example king richard won actor and it was oscar bait
ReplyCopy URLMarch 15, 2023 at 6:19 am #1205352795Eh… I wouldn’t even call some of these movies traditional baits. Grouping all of them together seems wrong.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 15, 2023 at 6:22 am #1205352801Honestly, with Elvis, it’s really about the Actor loss that sent it home empty handed. The movie won Costumes at BAFTA without Wakanda being nominated there, so the latter prevailing at Oscars wasn’t that surprising (considering most people continued predicting it due to its undeniable nature), even with its guild loss to EEAAO; guild win doesn’t really cement you as winner or loser especially when not televised. So, that leaves Actor & Makeup which are basically joint, and they chose Fraser. In conclusion, I’m not sure whether they consciously denied it or it just happened.

P.S. it was never winning Cinematography, I don’t understand people predicting it like bfr All Quiet had vastly flashier cinematography.March 15, 2023 at 6:36 am #1205352817Traditional Oscar bait isn’t hitting with the AMPAS like it used to.
I think this was one of those times where passion prevailed over baitness. I mean, All Quiet on the Western Front still was the second film with the most award of the ceremony.

Will Smith was running on a very strong overdue narrative, was one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood, had the backing of the Williams’ sisters and The Power Of The Dog was so weak by the time of the ceremony that it was just limping to the finish line, effectively ruling out a Cumberbatch groundswell.

But why would she have an Oscar tho?
ReplyCopy URLMarch 15, 2023 at 7:18 am #1205352849Darling, TÁR and Triangle of Sadness are the kind of small artsy/indie films that got nominated almost every year and left the ceremony empty handed. Few of them are being frontrunner in only one category, and had near to zero chances in other categories
See Field’s In The Bedroom (Spacek for best actress), A Serious Man, Winter’s Bone, The Kids Are All Right (Bening’s overdue Oscar), The Tree of Life, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Nebraska, Brooklyn, Lion, Lady Bird, Licorice Pizza (original screenplay), The Fabelmans (Spielberg’s third directing).
So far only CODA that actually won picture while still feels like a filler movie that got zero Oscars.
I accidentally deleted this post lol

Ke Huy Quan attended an event recently and sat next to Cate Blanchett.

March 15, 2023 at 9:09 am #1205352970Darlings, I had the most wonderful time at the Oscars. 😊
[Going back now, given that the season is finally over. Bye!]
ReplyCopy URLMarch 15, 2023 at 9:27 am #1205352999Got to say I felt really bad for Andrea Riseborough. She was too anxious/fearful even to show her happiness and excitement at her nomination when her clip was played. She’s a mad talented actress.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 15, 2023 at 5:33 pm #1205353486You give the Academy way too much credit lol. They recognised one movie prominently featuring POCs which happened to be the one they liked the most. Elsewhere they nominated films featuring predominantly white actors while mostly overlooking those with more diverse casts. Those five movies you mentioned weren’t snubbed for being white; after all, they had no issue with giving All Quiet four awards.
Can’t imagine what it might be like being so obsessed with identity and race all the time. So tiresome.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 15, 2023 at 6:53 pm #1205353555This decade has already tied with the 2010’s in terms of POC Acting Winners btw
2010s

Mahershala Ali x2
Viola Davis

2020s (so far)
