Saw The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and The Northman yesterday.
The Northman would be deserving in numerous crafts, but because of it’s early release and it’s divisive response, I can only see it getting in one or two crafts at most. Probably Costumes or Production Design, though I would like to see a Sound nom.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is very much carried on its screenplay and acting. However, I think it’s greatest chance at a nom is actually Make-Up. Make-Up is more open to comedy movies (Coming 2 America; Jackass: Bad Grandpa) and there’s a scene in the movie that relies heavily on makeup that I think the makeup department will like. Don’t want to get too into spoilers, so I’d be interested to hear the opinion of someone else that has seen the film.

The makeup branch does march to the beat of its own drum so it could happen, especially considering the context of the scene. However, Coming 2 America & Bad Grandpa were essentially makeup showcases rather than a single scene & who knows if Massive Talent will still be on their minds by the time voting starts.
