More than half the nominations were non white lmao. Would it jumping from 53% to 55% make you satisfied? Doubt

January 24, 2023 at 6:34 am #1205261906Lol. How does Andrea Riseborough fit into this theory?
Lol. Because she got her friends to campaign for her and it worked. If she wasn’t popular with them then she’d never be nominated.
January 24, 2023 at 6:34 am #1205261910Watching the 50 social media campaigns that happen for random actors the week of Oscar voting next year is going to be wild.
Here’s to all of next season’s small movies with big hearts

January 24, 2023 at 6:35 am #1205261919I don’t see a single one of you whingers complaining about how the VAST majority of this year’s nominees are men. How ALL this year’s directors are men. How historically the VAST majority of all winners have been men.
You don’t really care about women. You just pick the lead actress category to hyperfocus on.
Here for the comedies
January 24, 2023 at 6:35 am #1205261923Yeah but I feel if they were gonna snub Ciao Papa, it could’ve easily gone to Taylor Swift. EEAAO was 12th in odds in that category. I’m not sure anyone predicted a nomination for EEAAO here.
I’m not super active on the forums but I predicted it solely because I thought it would be cool to see Mitski get an Oscar nomination and can’t believe I actually managed to get that correct.
January 24, 2023 at 6:35 am #1205261927Maybe if they WROTE and FINANCED better WRITTEN roles FOR THEMSELVES they could branch out. What an ignorant and dismissive take.
Like when Michaela Coel wrote, produced, directed and starred in her own show which became the runaway critical favourite of the year, and then proceeded to be snubbed by the HFPA and had to fight for acting nominations with the remaining awards groups? 💀
FYC: Danielle Deadwyler, Best Actress in a Leading Role

Who gives a shit about the HFPA?

January 24, 2023 at 6:37 am #1205261954The posters kvetching about Andrea Riseborough’s nomination probably haven’t even seen ” To Leslie “. Thank goodness some voting members of the Academy did.

I’ve seen plenty of posts upset about the overall reception of women directed films this year (She Said, Women Talking, Till, The Woman King) oh and it looks like the two Black actresses who were snubbed this morning were in films directed by women as well (that were blanked by the academy), Women Talking was given TWO nominations while higher profile films directed by women like The Woman King, Till, and She Said were put to rest.
