Thank God we’re getting good screenplay winners this year, last years screenplay winners were atrociousBelfast and CODA winning over TWPITW and Drive My Car is equivalent to a hate crime.
March 5, 2023 at 7:45 pm #1205333855Same over here. Hell, when I watched the film in theaters last year already placed it for BP and Director. It gave me the same feeling I had with Parasite, Nomadland and Coda. A film that had all the magical qualities to win voters across the board.
I always thought it had a chance here but I imagined it being more of a Parasite-esque upset victory at best, not the massive lock it is at the moment.
I'm back bitches.

March 5, 2023 at 7:47 pm #1205333857GG and BAFTA had both films nominated for Original Screenplay and Banshees won both of them.
You forgot to mention that Banshees and Everything Everywhere also competed at Critics Choice, and the latter won.

Licorice Pizza should have won Original Screenplay IMO. That movie was a hoot with spot-on dialogue and also very well written dramatic moments.

March 5, 2023 at 7:56 pm #1205333885I am sticking with my Banshees prediction but EEAAO could sweep. EEAAO winning WGA was expected. GG and BAFTA had both films nominated for Original Screenplay and Banshees won both of them. So it is entirely possible they will “spread the wealth” – as they have been doing over the past decade or so – and give the Daniels the Director award and McDonagh the writing award. Either way the winner will be an excellent choice.
For Original Screenplay: CC+WGA >>>> GG+BAFTA
March 5, 2023 at 8:16 pm #1205333926What are y’alls opinions on Adapted Screenplay? I’m still very split on Women Talking and All Quiet. All Quiet is looking more and more like a BAFTA thing every day but CC and WGA have been really bad at predicting this category lately. Plus no film has won with only two nominations since Sling Blade.
I'm back bitches.

March 5, 2023 at 8:28 pm #1205333937The WGA/CC wins are usually a powerful combination for Oscar victory, every Oscar winner usually have or BAFTA/WGA, or WGA/CC, OR BAFTA/CC. I think this is EEAAO to lose.

If he somehow loses a third time with the same combo then there’s some kind of conspiracy involved.

American Beauty – Original Screenplay
No Country for Old Men – Adapted Screenplay
Slumdog Millionaire – Adapted Screenplay
Argo – Adapted Screenplay

That was one of the places the film could be rewarded. And 3 Billboards already had two wins sealed up. This isn’t the case with Banshees, considering it could very much go empty-hand.
Still predicting Banshees.
March 5, 2023 at 9:30 pm #1205334008We might think some voters might choose Banshees to spread the love but does it really work that way? Maybe.
Not to mention, SAG didn’t “spread the love” despite Banshees having 5 noms. Instead, it lost 4 times to Everything Everywhere.

March 5, 2023 at 9:59 pm #1205334030I believe in a “throw a bone” theory, but how do you decide which category thousands of voters want to throw a bone? If voters truly love EEAAO, perhaps they might go all out and vote for it in as many categories as possible.
