EEAAO would be one of my 2 favorite original winners this century along with Eternal Sunshine.
March 5, 2023 at 10:46 pm #1205334066Movies that won PGA, DGA, SAG, and WGA always win Adapted/Original Screenplay: American Beauty – Original Screenplay No Country for Old Men – Adapted Screenplay Slumdog Millionaire – Adapted Screenplay Argo – Adapted Screenplay Everything Everywhere All At Once – ???
Even without PGA and DGA, I would still predict it because SAG and WGA is an unbeatable combo in Screenplay. And it winning here is basically the same level of expectedness as Avatar sweeping VFX… it was always happening.

Everything Everywhere All at Once for everything, everywhere, all at onceMarch 5, 2023 at 10:53 pm #1205334069Belfast and CODA winning over TWPITW and Drive My Car is equivalent to a hate crime.
I will always be bitter about last year’s screenplay winners.
March 6, 2023 at 1:03 am #1205334150What are y’alls opinions on Adapted Screenplay? I’m still very split on Women Talking and All Quiet. All Quiet is looking more and more like a BAFTA thing every day but CC and WGA have been really bad at predicting this category lately.
Separately yes but only Up in the Air and Arrival won both and lost the Oscar, and the latter only because it wasn’t competing with Moonlight which was considered original there. I had switched to All Quiet as I was predicting Women Talking to lose WGA, but now that it’s won I might have to switch back. CC + WGA + USC Scripter is a very solid haul, Sarah Polley has good will within the industry and Women Talking is generally more highly regarded for its writing than All Quiet (which has recently made headlines for its negative response from German critics due to its drastic changes to the novel).

At least it wasn’t “Don’t Look Up”. As much as I thought “The Worst Person…” would likely be my pick, the narrative was whether it will be PTA or Branagh who will win his 1st Oscar here. “CODA” won because “Power of the Dog” peaked way too early.
March 6, 2023 at 6:03 am #1205334372Only thing Banshees is winning is supporting actress.
EEAAO is wayyyyy too original.
March 6, 2023 at 6:33 am #1205334422the screenplay races are damn competitive
cca/wga = eeao
bafta/gg = banshees
wga/cca/scripter = women talking
bafta = all quiet

As my late mother used to say: “we shall see what we shall see!” (;

These are all good points. I think with this plus All Quiet losing at CAS and it’s biggest competitor in Cinematography winning ASC it seems more and more like All Quiet was a BAFTA only thing outside of International and maybe Score. I’ll probably switch to Women Talking here.
I'm back bitches.

March 6, 2023 at 11:50 am #1205334969Simple two cents: Everything Everywhere All At Once is WAY TOO STRONG for one of its most acclaimed aspects (ie Screenplay) to not come along with the ride esp since its closest competitor has had its momentum fall/stall. We might think some voters might choose Banshees to spread the love but does it really work that way? Maybe.
Wait, it has a SCRIPT? Get outta here.

literally what is your problem
March 6, 2023 at 4:36 pm #1205335302Fingers crossed for Field and Polley!
March 7, 2023 at 12:30 am #1205335588Both screenplay categories will be “leaning in and paying super close attention” as the envelopes are opened to find out which film has won the Oscar! I prefer Banshees and Women Talking but could be very happy with Everything Everywhere and/or All Quiet!
March 9, 2023 at 11:41 pm #1205341071I really want Women Talking to win! Sarah Polley is a sweatheart..
