Watch out for Ashley Park and Stephanie Hsu. Joy ride is getting the raves it deserves. Would be nice if they get a comedy/musical nomination.

What’s wild is people making a Top 5 at this stage, no? No need to make it about race already when literally a POC just won…
FYC:
Zar Amir Ebrahimi - Holy Spider (Best Actress)
Ana de Armas, Julianne Nicholson - Blonde (Best Actress, Supporting Actress)
Samantha Morton - She Said (Best Supporting Actress)
Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Inisherin (Best Supporting Actress)March 18, 2023 at 11:42 am #1205356434What’s wild is people making a Top 5 at this stage, no? No need to make it about race …
Fantasia’s exclusion is not wild due to the race factor of it but because of how revered and award winning the role has been. Goldberg came close to a win and Erivo won. It’s just BAIT with a capital T

I’m just loving the “exclusion” narrative already based on a few GD posters opinions regarding a movie that hasn’t even screened… people need to chill…it’s totally understandable that not all musicals translate well to cinema…like we have enough evidence for this?

This! Not to mention it’s an all-star Spielberg/Winfrey produced film. It will be a top priority screener for voters.

Picture, Screenplay and Hsu (afterglow nom) feels like a solid possibility right now with a pretty easy pathway. Multiple Globe noms; (Sup.) Actress + SAG Ensemble and WGA who love nominating mainstream comedies.
March 18, 2023 at 4:04 pm #1205356590Joy Ride feels like another Booksmart to me
At the very least, it should be a contender in Original Screenplay
March 18, 2023 at 4:16 pm #120535661193 year old Oscar Nominated Actress Fernanda Montenegro could be in the running for Best Actress for her film Dona Vitoria. It’s the true story of how a woman taped the drug cartel for over two years and helped to bring them down. I hope she does get nominated since she was robbed in winning for Central Station.
March 18, 2023 at 4:25 pm #1205356623I was skeptical of Past Lives the last few pages but I checked and it seems there’s always at least one major Oscar contender from Sundance so I’m just wondering if there’s any other viable options because otherwise I think it’s almost a lock for at least one Oscar nomination
Once there was only Dark. If you ask me, the Light's winning.
March 18, 2023 at 4:33 pm #1205356634Film critics have been a bit harsher to movies lately (see Tár and Nomadland being the only BP nominees from this decade so far to get 90s scores on metacritic whilst 2019 alone had 4 films in the early to mid 90s) so I think the rapturous reception to Past Lives alone, which many critics have already claimed is going to be one of the best films of the year when all is said and done, makes it a contender imo even if it were to say get The Farewell‘d because of A24’s mixed track record prior to this year.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
March 18, 2023 at 4:44 pm #1205356644i hope Rye Lane at least gets some BAFTA love
