Yeah I mean, I was saying elsewhere recently that I think the “slap the stud” term is over-used and over-cited as a significant factor anyway and we’ve gotten far too liberal with applying it. But I especially don’t see it for Cooper at this age and stage of his career. He’s plenty established, respected, and recognized by his peers and awards bodies. Maestro will definitely be his blitz play to finally win that Oscar. I have no problem with him winning but it seems just so perfectly awards-baity, Academy-friendly, easy lock nomination and frontrunner I’m half expecting it to blow up The Son style lmao. It’s usually the ones that seem like the surest bets on paper.

This. He directed it. Produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Too easy. Maybe The Oscars want a crazier performance like Leo, Joaquin Phoenix or Michael Fassbender. And don’t forget Jonathan Majors

if Cooper doesn’t win for this one he is never gonna win it’s his most baitiest role

With complete acceptance of the risk of eating crow, I really don’t think any Oppenheimer actors are going to be in play when we come around to Oscar season. Same lineup as BAPS very early on, just swipe in Giamatti for Barry. It’s great to see Searchlight going in on Majors, though, and I really hope it pays off with a nom!

I’m reading the source material which is surprisingly baity. Oppenheimer was much more of a fascinating person than I expected. If they do justice to the text  it’s the role of a lifetime with all those layers

    FYC 2023:

Zar Amir Ebrahimi - Shayda (Best Actress)
Helen Mirren - Golda (Best Actress)
Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt - Oppenheimer (Best Actor/Actress)

Oh! Hmmm ok…noted! I’m not familiar with the source material at all (outside of, obviously, history classes and texts). Really just guessing based on Nolan’s track record and other release factors. And won’t be upset at all if I’m proven foolish on this one.

Bradley Cooper winning for “Maestro” after Blanchett lost for TAR would not sit well for me. No disrespect to Cooper, he is an amazing actor.

Jonathan Majors or Cillian Murphy would be interesting choices.

Cillian Murphy finally got his first BAFTA nomination for Peaky Blinders after being overlooked for 5 seasons.

One of the most talented actors in the industry and so underrated. This year we’ll get you that Oscar nomination too.

I’m guessing by the run time of the movie it will go at least into some depth of character, but I understand our misgivings with it being Nolan. I’ve only started the text really but already feel Robert’s early years would be enough material for a baity biopic; he was something of a child prodigy and in his student years experienced severe depression and generally has eccentric qualities. I can’t wait to see how Cillian portrays this…

He’s coming. I’ve heard from people who have seen the movie he’s Cate Blanchett in TÁR level of good.

Some people are already in denial about Bradley Cooper lmao

Sometimes wins are really obvious. I thought DDL, LDC, Casey Affleck, Oldman, Joaquin, Hopkins, Will Smith, Fraser were winning at this stage of the season the last several years. I do think Majors may snag a nom though. I don’t trust Nolan enough to predict Cillian Murphy

Oh yeah I’m still predicting Bradley. But Majors will for sure be nominated.

Yes this seems like a slam dunk at the moment. Unless the movie is panned, but then again that didn’t stop Fraser.

Elvis was the baitiest role and still lost. By no means do I dislike Cooper but I feel like there are more exciting options. I’d be perfectly fine with a Cooper win.
