She blew it out of the park. Who knew she had it in her?
I am now officially a fan.

It’s called Firebrand Vicki. The film centers around Catherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII. Michelle Williams was originally cast but dropped the project when she became pregnant, the role then went to Vikander (one of my favorite actresses of the current generation) who I have faith will deliver an amazing performance.

The supporting cast is very interesting, including Jude Law, Erin Doherty (Princess Anne in The Crown), Simon Russell Beale (incredible stage actor), and Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky). I think I’m one of the few people putting faith in this film but I love Karim Aïnouz as a filmmaker and I find Parr endlessly fascinating. Hélène Louvart is in charge of the cinematography, her subtle aesthetics are extremely underappreciated, her works include The Lost Daughter and Never Rarely Sometimes Always.March 27, 2023 at 12:14 pm #1205365846It’s called Firebrand Vicki. Oh sounds intriguing…I had no idea about it and always good to have Alicia back in a corset! She always brings intelligence and sensitivity to her roles!

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt - Oppenheimer (Best Actor/Actress)March 28, 2023 at 8:22 am #1205367056For me this is apples and oranges. Biopics about legendary artists I understand why they are dubbed (Ray, Bohemian Rhapsody etc). Musicals are usually fictional characters and part of the performance is the ability to sing the role. Being dubbed takes away from that beauty, part of the appeal of musicals to me is hearing different actor’s ability portraying the same characters and songs over time. If someone is dubbed in a musical it feels fake.
This is a late reply sorry, but I wanted to say that Audrey Hepburn actually thought she would be singing the entire role of Eliza Doolittle. She even stormed off set when she found out she was going to be dubbed, she was so disappointed (she came back and apologised for her behaviour afterwards). And it’s a shame she did get dubbed – she had a lovely voice, a bit raspy but very suitable for Eliza Doolittle. She’s an alto rather than a soprano so she would have struggled with some of the higher notes, particularly in I Could Have Danced All Night, but the higher notes could have been dubbed.
This YouTube video has some of her original singing, that’s been synced up with the video footage.

star of the year is not supposed to award a remarkable career but popularity in the year of the award
cinemacon is one of the most important industry event, all the decision makers are there, the early showing of top gun in cinemacon and the long theatrical run it had shows the power
zendaya is on her way to become a movie star, it makes sense

Considering that Zoe Saldana was last year’s recipient, it does feel premature.

It’s a subtle genre movie but her performance was phenomenal; she does subtlety and passion in the same scene like no other. If her name was Olivia Colman or Emma Stone she’d already be a top 5 contender. I know it won’t happen but hopefully she at least gets a César

Les Cinq Diables was eligible for the last Césars. Exarchopoulos was not nominated for it, but for Rien à foutre, her most accessible work from last year.

Thanks for the correction, we always seem to get these movies a year later in UK!

https://cinemaandpopcorn.blogspot.com/March 31, 2023 at 1:46 am #1205370147In 1954, Dorothy Dandridge in Carman Jones deserved to win more than Grace Kelly in The Country Girl (but my preference that year would have been Judy Garland in A Star is Born).
While Dorothy was better in Carmen Jones than Grace was in The Country Girl, neither deserved to win the Oscar. Judy did. So like I said, Diana should’ve been the first Black Best Actress winner.
