We all love Rosamund Pike but the idea that she has the strength to win is entirely speculative. We don’t know anything about the character, it’s only Emerald Fennell’s second film, and while some may have noticed that Pike has good one-liners, test screening reactions focused mostly on Barry Keoghan’s performance. She doesn’t have a backlog of nominations or a lot of relevant work to create a narrative, and I don’t think there’s any sense of urgency around her winning or not. And I have a feeling that maybe she gets a little bit of support from the critics, but that she probably won’t lead regionals.

There is reason to predict Lily Gladstone, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Julianne Moore, or even Viola Davis before her.March 25, 2023 at 2:33 pm #1205363692After Bassett’s reaction, no clapping at ALL. She can sit back and want to be an Oscar winner. Her day will never come.
Angela Bassett is a classy woman who held Austin Butler’s hand because he was nervous. You don’t want to discuss that because that goes against the nasty idea that her showing the slightest bit of disappointment makes her a rude inhuman monster. The policing of black women’s emotions is disgusting. I didn’t even want Bassett to win but she had every right to be disappointed. It doesn’t mean that she hates Curtis or anyone else. She didn’t yell or hit anyone and yet you are treating her like she did.

Lily Gladstone will win one of the trifecta i am pretty sure of that NYFCC ( they love marty ) or LAFCA ( she already won one ) meanwhile Industry can go with the crowdpleasing ones like Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks or Da’Vine Joy Randolph

Apparently Lily Gladstone has everything in her hands. Her career has been building towards this breakthrough for a few years now. She’s going to have the role, a movie that’s going to be seen by the entire Academy, she’s going to have the support from the critics, she may have a narrative for being the first actress of indigenous heritage to win. But I think Taraji P. Henson may have a career narrative and be the place to recognize The Color Purple, who knows.

it’s just after Kodi and Kerry lost i dunno if the academy will give it to an artsy performance they might go with the crowd pleasing route with the color purple ladies or Da’Vine Joy Randolph but we will see she has a great narrative for sure

one that not a lot of people watch?
b/c scorsese + leo alone should prevent that

ReplyCopy URLMarch 26, 2023 at 3:24 am #1205364085So wait…we are now going to drag Glenn into this mess? The woman was the hot favorite and wayyyyy overdue and was merely showing her disappointment (and that too inadvertently).
If I were Glenn Close, I’d leave the ceremony immediately after then. Even my dearest Gaga wanted Dame Close to get her due. The Academy really messed up

March 26, 2023 at 3:30 am #1205364089I’m bringing Emily Blunt into the conversation. Oppenheimer is going to be huge and epic. I was the first to take Bassett seriously last year, so hopefully, I’m right with Blunt too even though I haven’t seen the film. It has to work for her this time

- Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon (WINNER)

March 26, 2023 at 10:16 am #1205364323Taraji &/or Danielle are coming! Brooks has the more memorable musical number with “Push Da Button”, so I’m predicting her. However, Henson is a previous nominee with a lot of goodwill within the industry.
