so this magical crowdpleasing yes/no is based on what? your opinion?
no her role is based on Killers of flower moon book the movie isn’t a crowdpleaser it’s a 3 hour artsy movie full of violence and blood based on a real native American tragedy while the holdovers is a crowd pleaser in vein of green book and while color purple isn’t it’s still a tear jerking movie like the father starting actresses with showy performances including a respected veteran
ReplyCopy URLMarch 26, 2023 at 1:09 pm #1205364499Taraji &/or Danielle are coming! Brooks has the more memorable musical number with “Push Da Button”, so I’m predicting her. However, Henson is a previous nominee with a lot of goodwill within the industry.
Henson (Shug) has Push Da Button – not Brooks.
Henson has:
Push Da Button
Too Beautiful For Words
The Color Purple
What About Love
Brooks has:
Hell No
Any Little Thing
*Apparently there are 4 news songs so some of this may change.

She’s beloved with a B just like some of the other veterans we’ve seen triumph in this category lately (and for both her film and TV work) and this is her first major project after Schitt’s Creek swept the Emmys so if the goodwill is still there and the film isn’t a flop or her role is too small like with Jean Smart in Babylon I can see an overdue narrative develop.

I think “Push da Button” will be a memorable moment in the film. Henson better bring it!

I actually think Danielle might have a tough time securing the win as she has to be just as good if not better than Oprah’s version of Sophia – which is a pretty iconic version of the character.
Conversely, the mere fact that Taraji is doing her own singing (vs. Margaret Avery who was dubbed) gives her the edge.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 31, 2023 at 1:53 am #1205370149There is a pattern where black actresses have won Supporting Actress every 2-3 years since Jennifer Hudson’s win in 2007 (That’s how I knew Angela wasn’t winning this year. She would’ve disrupted that pattern). It’ll be two years since Ariana DeBose won for West Side Story, so a black actress is winning this year. Personally, I’m rooting for Audra McDonald in Rustin—if for nothing else than for her to complete her EGOT—but I’d be satisfied if Taraji won. It’s her time.

April 2, 2023 at 11:21 am #1205374554I’ve seen some predict Lily Gladstone in Lead and some in Supporting for Killers of the Flower Moon. If the film is faithful to David Grann’s book— which, of course, it might not be— what category should she appropriately be in? (Is this likely to be a case of placing a less famous actress in Supporting to improve her chances?)
