Carrying on Babypook’s comment on the Ricki and The Flash thread.

What were the cases, examples, historical precedents on films with 4 or more Oscar WINNERS prominently collaborating on a single film.

For Ricki and The Flash, 4 Oscar WINNERS are prominently involved:

    1. Meryl Streep – Acting
    2. Kevin Kline –  Acting
    3. Jonathan Demme – Directing
    4. Diablo Cody – Screenplay

    ***

Is it really a Recipe for Disaster ???

It shouldn’t be, it should be the opposite.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies-
    Peter Jackson- Director/Writer/Producer/Actor
    Fran Walsh- Writer/Producer/Song-writer

    Philippa Boyens-Writer
    Cate Blanchett- Actress

The Counselor: with Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt being directed by Ridley Scott. Add in a bunch of other talent, and shold have been fantastic. Ricki and the Flash should be fine though.

    Are you shittin’ me Etchie?

    Fine. Here’s one.

    The Poseidon Adventure, 1979

    Gene Hackman (hadnt won yet)

    Red Buttons

    Ernest Borgnine

    Shelly Winters

    Jack Albertson

    Arthur O’Connell (nominated twice)

Have I forgotten anybody? And allow me to point out, this film, was a Disaster.

ETA: The best asset I see at this point re Ricki is the director.

The disaster films in the 70s used to specialize in gathering multi-Oscar winning casts.

The Poseidon Adventure and Airport 77 each had 5 Oscar winners in their cast.

Nine was pretty great at showing how having multiple Oscar winners and nominees cannot always make a film good.

How was The Poseidon Adventure a disaster? The movie received criticial acclaim, won awards (8 Academy Award nominations), and did well at the box office.

I think she means it was a disaster movie. BTW Hackman had already won his first Oscar when Poseidon came out.  He won for French Connection earlier that same year.

Well i mean they always say it takes a lot of really talented people to make a really bad movie. I guess the trouble is that sometimes people just assume if youre talented you can spin anything into gold so producers trust really shitty ideas with a really great team, and then it turns out, unsurprisingly, shitty.

    Jean Dujardin – Acting

    Grant Heslov – Producer

Matt Damon – Partially as he was a Screenplay Oscar Winner and an Actor in the film
