Poitier announcing Best Picture would be a huge anticlimatic finale to such a tense yet fun season, because then we’d all know the winner beforehand.

That is plain wrong. Jackson deserved it for Lord of the Rings. Coppola arguably derived much of her film from Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love. Also, Streisand presenting to Bigelow was one of the worst presenter choices I’ve seen, clearly set up for the probable winner. And of course Streisand made the moment more about herself than Bigelow. I disliked the Scorsese presenters too, completely unfair to the other nominees. If a political figure shows up again for BP I will be really pissed. This should be no place for that nonsense.

No we wouldn’t. Poitier was announced as a presenter before voting had even stopped, so, assuming the producers actually know the winners (which they don’t), how would him presenting BP be at all indicative of anything?

Nelson Mandela’s family is coming to the show. Maybe they’d be the surprise presenters.

No way in the world with the Ukraine crisis Obama would be presenting anything. He’d be rightfully skewered. Michelle was fine last year, but this year is definate.

If Poitier did present BP, in no way does it mean it’s certain to be 12 Yrs. Doesn’t work that way.

Here’s one to send a thousand GD hearts aflutter – Angela Lansbury will be there – maybe they throw it to her.

I thought she was supposed to be on stage in London

If Michelle Obama had presented to Zero Dark Thirty last year, that would have been priceless. The response by both left and right would have been hilarious. Mass conspiracy!

Oh – the honorary winners usually briefly sit in the front row to get their throwaway attention; didn’t realize she was otherwise occupied

OK – another non-mentioned name that would make a lot of sense, even if 12 Yrs doesn’t win – Oprah Winfrey

    In this video:

you can see a sketch and a few images of parts of the set, and an unreadable page of the script.

Another rational unannounced presenter – George Clooney – won last year, acted in contender, buddies with producer of second, acted for both Russell and Payne. That covers a lot of bases….

On the other hand, he might be thrilled to have this year off since like most stars he has no desire to be there unless a nominee or having something to promote. (He does have Mon Men is release though).

Harrison Ford or Robert DeNiro don’t somehow seem to have as much relevance and/or gravitas, or any other of the announced presenters other than Poitier.
