Question: I remember another awards ceremony where there was some prize or award for the shortest speech, and I thought it was the Oscars, but I can’t find any reference to it. Does anybody else remember when, and at what ceremony, this was done?

It was a TV. Probably a plasma tv or something since I remember it being many many years ago. For some reason I remember Julia Roberts saying she already owned a tv and didn’t care for the prize. So 2001?

Why did Kobe Bryant get away so easily from his past rape accusations? Especially this year.

James Franco was snubbed but Kobe wins an Oscar the year of #Metoo?

Because the animated short category is a non-factor to most nobody felt offended until he took the stage. And Franco’s performance was no lock. I thought Daniel K was vulnerable not Washington with the voters.

Anyway, I love Emma Stone to death but she needs to learn when to shut up. She’s being eaten up whole for her “white feminism” shenanigan while presenting Director.

And she played an Asian AND worked with Woody Allen, TWICE.

Yes these hypocrites are annoying. And the oscars are not a place to do that, GG is fine cause its a party kind of awards.

If you wanna talk the talk walk the walk.

I think that Franco played the type of role that Academy doesn’t like very much to actually give a nomination for it. And  there was such a respected major actor as Washington (who also got SAG and GG nominations). Also maybe Academy has some grudges because of Franco’s hosting 2011 Oscars?

As for Bryant, idk.  I read about his case and how it turned out legally and factually and it’s….very troubling. At the same time look at how celebrities  are acting with Bryant. After Oscars everybody was hanging out with him at the parties, taking pictures and all. Emma Watson, outspoken feminist, who donated for the cause and came to Oscars with a tatoo of Time’s Up on her hand, was very cosy with Bryant.

I know this isn’t the right thread, but do you think Phantom Thread could be an ok nominee for Best Original Screenplay over The Big Sick?

Absolutely, PT and I, Tonya would have both made better nominees.

I think both PT and I, Tonya would have been more deserving nominees for Screenplay than The Shape of Water and The Big Sick. I still liked those latter 2 movies, I just felt the former 2 had superior writing.

For your Goldderby Film Awards consideration: Isle of Dogs for every category, especially Music Score for Alexandre Desplat!

Agreed, as much as I loved TSOW the screenplay wasn’t it’s biggest strength. I had PT and I, Tonya (among others) over both those movies in my personal noms.
