When they reported, it wasn’t true. His reps had not decided yet.

Nah, I personally think Best Animated Feature is ISLE OF DOGS’ to lose. It would be Wes Anderson’s first win, and he is quite beloved across the Academy for his inventiveness.

I’m concerned that Isle of Dogs might be too eccentric to win over its more commercial competitor. And people had problems with Anderson’s movie politically, with think-pieces accusing it of cultural appropriation and white-saviour syndrome.

Well tbh that´s because Pixar sequels are a fucking mess.Neither Monsters University and Finding Dory deserved to win.Incredibles 2 is basically incredible as an animated picture and that will do it.

I still don’t know… Brad Bird has two Oscars. Andrew Stanton had two Oscars before the Finding Dory no-show… could history repeat itself?

Finding Dory was unfortunate in having some of the most intense competition in this category ever. Incidentally, this was also the last year before nomination voting was expanded to the whole academy (providing they’ve seen two thirds of the eligible films).

Would you say the deck is stacked this year as well? I’m starting to wonder if we’re going to get only three nominees for animated feature at the Golden Globes for the first time since 2014 [2013] and at the Oscars for the first time since 2011 [2010] (which was a pretty packed year as well)?

I just added “Roma” to my Picture and Director lineup. Too many contenders I have seen or others have seen do not appear to be living up to the hype they were perceived to have, and the buzz for “Roma” continues to be extremely hot. Director has plenty of room for Cuaron, and it makes sense there would also be a corresponding Picture nom. I am still not convinced that it is a Best Picture frontrunner, but it is solidly in the middle of the pack for my Picture lineup.

As far as I can tell, not particularly, which is why I think Incredibles 2 will be nominated and win.

Not sure why ur all confident in this movie. The whole movie didn’t even get a single nomination at Gotham’s despite being elligible?

I’m not sure we are “all” confident. There’s basically no chance for this film anywhere other than the sound categories but I do consider Blunt to have been awards worthy so appreciate seeing where she is being campaigned regardless

The studio is confirming Emily Blunt as supporting with me as well. Just last week they gave me a 100% confirmation that she would be lead, so something certainly changed her mind.
