I’m predicting a Bohemian Rhaspody nom. I think we underestimated Queen’s fans among the industry who, unlike critics, loved the movie like the GP.

Plus, Black Panther + A Star Is Born + Mary Poppins + Bohemian Rhaspody = ratings.

I’m predicting it as well. It’s an overall shitty film, but it’s a box office smash and we know that Malek will certainly get nominated. The film did manage to get both a GG Best Drama Film nomination and a SAG Best Ensemble nomination. So, I’d say it’ll make it into the Oscar lineup. Who knows, there might even be 10 nominees for Best Picture.

I absolutely loved Roma. It’s my favourite film of the year but it doesn’t blind the fact that there’s a lot of hurdles for Roma to overcome to win BP.

In my mind Cuarón will win at least 3 Oscars: Best Director, Best Cinematography and Foreign Film so I still believe if Roma was to win BP it would be too much for general audiences to digest. Particularly in a year when AMPAS wanted to introduce best popular film then actually got a contingent of “popular oscar-worthy films”, I think awarding Roma most of its top honours would be a bit alienating to oscar viewers especially in this new climate. It’s a dilemma.”Roma is the hero we deserve but not the one we need right now.”

    My december best picture prediction:

    What should win: Roma
    What will win: ASIB
    What could win: Blackkklansman

^This would seem logical, yes, but the preferential ballot will help Roma to a win. While most people liked A Star Is Born many people won’t put it in their top 3. Passion votes matter and is the reason that Moonlight won and even Spotlight won over La La Land and The Revenant, which won Best Director (Argo over Life Of Pi, despite no Best Director nomination). I am not saying Roma will win but it certainly could and I sure hope it will! (Usually by the time BP is announced I have stopped caring, lol!)

I am really hoping Ben Is Back gets a Best Film Editing nomination. It is incredibly well edited!

I have yet to see Mary Poppins Returns, If Beale Street Could Talk, Vice and Destroyer – the first 3 seem extremely likely to get major nominations and the last one seems to be a long-shot. Otherwise I have seen pretty much everything that could possibey get in to the major 6 categories. I will be seeing those 4 films over the next 2 weeks!

As of right now, I see A Star Is Born taking both Picture and Actress. My personal choice would be The Favourite in both categories.

The Suspiria (2018) MUAH nomination and win (haha) is probably just wishful thinking, but have you seen the prosthetic work on that film? It’s pretty good. Another nomination that is just pure wishful thinking is Toni Collette’s best actress nod because I loved her acting in Hereditary. Plus, I don’t know who to put there since I’m not yet really convinced that Emily Blunt will get that fifth spot.

I re-watched Crazy Rich Asians this afternoon and it better get nominations for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Personally I think it deserves a BP nomination, if it wasn’t for the category frauds Michelle Yeoh would be nominated and deservedly so, and also for Best Cinematography – the visual look of CRA is incredible.

I still feel that the female cast members outshine the male ones but I am happy they got a SAG Ensemble nomination.

Bohemian Rhapsody is likely to get a Best Pic nomination. I have a feeling that First Man will not get in but just some technical nominations.

I would say Bohemian Rhapsody would be my #10 but the Academy only nominates 9 and it just misses out.

I saw The Mule last night and I was really impressed. I wish it was in contention for awards this season. The story wasn’t really what I had expected it to be, and all the little twists it took were very refreshing from what this film could have easily become. If this is truly Eastwood’s last film, I thought it was a perfect one to go out on.

I have personally never cared much for the Costume Design category, but I want Crazy Rich Asians to get that nomination SO badly.

I also think Production Design is deserving.

My personal Top 10 of 2019 so far:
    1) Parasite 2) The Farewell 3) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 4) Joker 5) Jojo Rabbit 6) The Peanut Butter Falcon 7) Marriage Story 8) Luce 9) Yesterday 10) Hotel Mumbai
