Imagine if they submitted Cuties instead lol.
Well, at least it would give us some drama. Apparently there was actually a strong wing in their committe that was lobbying for Cuties.

It would be brilliant if it ended up being nominated for International Feature too.

Damn. I’m shook The Life Ahead didn’t get chosen.

November 24, 2020 at 4:37 am #1203860536Italy submitted Notturno.
I’m not that surprised by this, a number of countries have been submitting documentaries after the success of Honeyland and Italy also submitted Gianfranco Rosi’s Fire at Sea four years ago.
If The Life Ahead can get nominations for Actress and/or Song while Notturno gets in for Documentary or International Feature, then it’s a win-win for Italy.

Was really hoping for The Disciple… oh well.
I watched the Argentine nomination a while back. Wasn’t super big on it myself, but it seems to have received a decent reception domestically.
Italy’s submission is pretty interesting too. They had 5-6 solid pick they could have chosen this year.

ReplyCopy URLNovember 25, 2020 at 10:34 am #1203872335I know it’s a little too late, but Mexico had a good chance to, at least, get shortlisted with Nuevo Orden. It won Grand Jury at Venice, just behind the Best Picture frontrunner, and the award was given by an American jury president. I think that’s a little telling of how it could’ve done with AMPAS.

I liked I’m No Longer Here, but miles away you can see that’s getting no traction, its topic is too specific and won’t resonate as much as with Mexican, or even Iberoamerican, audiences.November 25, 2020 at 1:50 pm #1203873149Iceland submitted Agnes Joy.
