lol, of course they didn’t. Anyway, there’s like two good films on that list, and two others that are okay. Nothing great, naturally, but certainly lots of bad to go around.
may i ask which one are the good films in your opinion?
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 9, 2021 at 7:22 pm #1204034334Shortlist is okay. Another Round is winning, so whatever it’s with is whatever it’s with. I image the five noms will be—
Another Round
La Llorona
Colectiv
A Sun
Quo Vadis, Aida?with a chance for Night of The Kings to slip in there somewhere.
Little surprised not to see (I apologize for the long titles) Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time, Song Without a Name, or This Is Not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection. Vitalina Varela should also be there, but I’m not overly surprised not to see it. Venezuela’s submission was excellent too.
Wasn’t expecting Hope, The Man Who Sold His Skin or Charlatan to make the cut.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 9, 2021 at 7:45 pm #1204034353Tell me about it. It’s ridiculous. But tbh some of our choices were also appauling as hell. But I really had high hopes for Vitalina Varela. It was a perfect submission. We really needed the executive committee. Lets hope our luck changes next year.
Yeah. Had Bacurau been out this year and if our Academy had submitted it, it’d probably have made the shortlist. Doesn’t help our cinema is facing terrible times with this moronic government. There are no explicit censorship (yet) but they’re constantly cutting budgets.

I’m a big supporter of La Llorona, and Two of Us is very good. Better Days and Night of the Kings aren’t too shabby, either.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 9, 2021 at 9:11 pm #1204034473I am so excited Mexico’s entry made the shortlist. I know it’s a long shot as of right now but it would be awesome if it gets nominated.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 9, 2021 at 11:55 pm #1204034685I did not like Collective. It’d be ironic to see Romania finally nominated here, after years of good or great submissions, for a mediocre film.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 13, 2021 at 11:16 pm #1204041260Any chance Sun Children can sneak into the final 5? I’ll admit I am from Iran, so I sure hope it does.

February 20, 2021 at 9:40 am #1204051815Finally watched Two of Us and was surprised by how much I loved it. In a perfect world Barbara Sukowa would be getting nominated too.

February 21, 2021 at 4:47 pm #1204053443Really hoping these movies become available for public viewing soon. I know “A Sun” and “Two of Us” are in Netflix and Prime respectively. But what else?

Not for any political reason, I am just hearing so many incredible things. Things that interest me beyond belief. I will be watching this film.
If anyone has seen it, tell me what you think of it.

I just finished watching it. I was highly intrigued for most of the film. Just like the prisoners listening to the storyteller, I was hooked–until the end. I am really really let down by this ending. I expected it to go end in many different ways, but it ended up taking a deflated resolution. I’ll give it time to simmer in my head. I think maybe that’s the movie’s point?? Stories don’t necessarily end neatly? IDK.

March 9, 2021 at 10:52 am #1204100610Fernando Frías de la Parra just got nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director. The only one from an International Feature Film to do so at DGA.
🇲🇽 Ya No Estoy Aquí is fighting for that Oscar nom.

We only got 2 locks here and I believe one or two from “Collective”,”La Llorona”,and “Two of us” will not make it.
