The BatmanMay 19, 2020 at 2:55 pm #1203490467I read somewhere it’ll be postpone for 4 months. 93rd Oscars is scheduled on February 28, 2021. So Oscars on June 2021?
ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2020 at 3:09 pm #1203490478This doesn’t surprise me at all. With all this uncertainty I think it might be the right decision. I’m seeing them postpone it a month. I’d say end of March or early April. I find June way too late to have an awards ceremony for the previous year, but this are strange times so I wouldn’t be surprised. I also hope they don’t change the eligibility deadline, I think it should stick to December 31.

That’s never going to happen in a million years. That would cause problems with the 2022 Academy Awards. If they postpone it, I’ll say June/July will be the limit for it.

I’d say they could do a pretty normal ceremony, probably just inviting nominees and cast members of nominated films.

I agree with this. We don’t know what’s going to happen three months from now never mind 10. If there is a vaccine in early 2021 I think they probably will just have a longer Oscar season with a normal ceremony at the end of it.

but will it really be a ceremony for the previous year? considering we’ll have 6 months or more of no releases, so the elegibility should include the films released in early 2021 and we’ll have possibly the normal amount of contenders.
then in 2022 they do the ceremony with the films released in late 2021 and all its settled. most of the baits oscars care are released in the last quarter anyway so it shouldn’t be taken that seriously.

You have a point but considering that they are allowing streaming movies and documentaries to compete, I don’t see why they need to expand the deadline. I fee like they did it, with that in mind (lack of strong contenders). Not to mention that if they indeed expand it, many will want to push their movies to early 2021 for strategic purposes. Tbh I don’t really know… This situation is very strange. But your argument is very plausible.
