They literally just changed their rules to allow for VOD films and straight to streaming to compete.

The awards will be in March 2021, with a reduced guest list of mainly just nominees and a plus one. There will be plenty of strong films still in contention. I’m assuming quite a lot are mainly waiting for editing/final shots which can be done while adhering to social distancing.

Variety have produced this article for clicks. The Emmy’s are first and nothing has been said about them yet. Let’s all take it one step at a time.

My vote is that they shouldn’t postpone no matter what, and should just use the films they have available. Be pretty fun, honestly.

Makes no sense to postpone unless they’re doing it for the ceremony itself and its limitations. And even if that’s the case, there’s no need to talk about it or make decisions right now. And you can still do this at half capacity and eliminate people like Sasha Stone (lol) from the list. Like somebody said, nominees and their plus one. I would add just a couple of presenters who can do multiple categories. And people also come and go even if they’re nominees or presenters. This could be an idea too, have them present and leave.

I’m sure we can live without seeing random invited celebrities in the audience who aren’t presenters or nominees for a year. We can also live without seeing Nicole Kidman AND her mother AND her daughter.

If it’s because of the movies, then it’s ridiculous. This should go on as planned with whatever films we have available by December 31st. Just hand out your awards and close this horrible 2020, have your 2021 ceremony, leave it behind once and for all and focus on your 2022 ceremony.

Don’t tell me this ridiculous need of releasing everything at the end of the year has them THAT shook. Although I hope Hollywood and awards campaigns can learn from this (they won’t).

Oh and forgot to mention. I know this whole thing can mean “Amy Adams and Glenn Close FINALLY won their Oscars ONLY because of Covid and because they didn’t have much competition”.

Well, a lot of people chickened out at the Emmys last year and allowed Game of Thrones to break nomination records and get many wins ONLY because many big shows backed out. And nobody has really complained about this and it’s not an asterisk in their Wikipedia page. And Rachel Brosnahan’s page doesn’t say she may have won an Emmy only because Veep was on hiatus.

Just have your regular ceremony and be done with it.

Good. If it’s two years combined it will be a bloodbath, a lot of fun for us.

I unironically want this. I want 2 year combo with 10 nominees per category or whatever is going to create the most blood spilling.

A lot of actors have won Oscars in weak years.

Yes, we all know that. Zellweger just won like this. Pretty obvious I was refering to a huge situation like Covid. Or say, the writer’s strike from 2008 that could’ve (or actually did, can’t remember) pushed a lot of shows off the schedule and maybe somebody won mainly because somebody wasn’t there and you have an event this huge as an easy to remember excuse.

Hell yes, but only five nominees would be even more fun for me.

Bring it. 5 spots from 2 years, watch the thirst turn into hunger games.

The respective Academies and voting bodies (Oscars, Emmys, Tonys) should also try to judge the general mood of the country. Might be seen as exceedingly garish to hold awards shows during a global pandemic with millions infected and countless thousands dead. Postpone as long as they need to be postponed. Priorities and all.

Besides, isn’t there an Olympic season next year as well? So they’d be airing it late already.

Kinda wish this is the year when voters stop relying on film festivals and judge the movies that come out throughout the year. Wanna see how that film world would look like.

I just love movies. And awards.

In my opinion, the Academy should keep the original deadline. It has already waived the “no straight-to-video/streaming” rule for films that were originally intended for theaters. The producers of theatrical films affected by the virus have zero excuse to not take advantage of this waiver.
